The American super-premium food Wellness Core, which recently arrived on the Russian market, is not yet very popular on the shelves, but readers of “Cat Obormot” so often ask for a review of it that we could not refuse.
Wellness Core is manufactured by WellPet, a company that has been around since 1926 in Indiana. The USA is famous for its strict quality control regarding pet products, and according to the official website, the company places serious demands not only on production, but also on suppliers of raw materials - all of them meet FDA (Food and Drug Administration) standards.
Wellness Core for dogs
“Wellness Core” for dogs is available in dry and wet form.
All types of food are grain-free and consist exclusively of natural ingredients. They contain up to 53% easily digestible animal protein (fresh meat and fish) and fully meet the needs of dogs of different sizes and ages. The ingredients in the production processes are not subjected to high-temperature treatment; they retain the maximum of useful substances. Carbohydrates enter the body through rice or potatoes. The simultaneous content of probiotics and prebiotics supports normal digestion and contributes to the formation of stable immunity. Only fresh vegetables and fruits are responsible for fiber. This helps stimulate intestinal motility and greatly reduces the risk of developing allergies. Pets on this diet feel great, changes are noticeable after 1.5 - 2 weeks. Switching to food is difficult; it is necessary to mix it with regular food and gradually increase the amount. Different diets combine well with each other. The food can become the basis of the daily diet; the animals will receive everything they need in accordance with their biological needs. It is very difficult to find Wellness Core dog food on sale; everywhere it is only for cats. You have to order from online stores. The cost is high, but the food is very high quality. In composition it is closer to holistic ones. Lots of animal protein and other healthy supplements. The recipe does not involve the use of soy, wheat, corn, artificial colors or flavors. The simultaneous content of probiotics and prebiotics ensures the smooth functioning of the digestive system. Finding the most suitable food for your dog was not difficult. The range includes balanced diets for dogs of different sizes and ages. The optimal product was the grain-free hypoallergenic food from the Original line based on turkey and chicken. The dog eats dry kibble with pleasure. Their size is optimized for the size of the dog. They don’t spill out of your mouth; you can’t just swallow them. It takes effort to chew, since the food is quite dense. As a result, high-quality oral hygiene is ensured. Tartar and plaque form in smaller quantities; food does not completely remove them. The fat content is average, the pet does not gain weight on this diet.
I switched my dachshund to this food for small breed dogs with horse meat 2 months ago. At first I gave 1-2 croquettes as a reward treat, because I read that the ingredients included pineapple, strawberries, and some other berries and fruits. I was afraid to immediately make “Wellness” a full-fledged daily diet - it is unknown how the dog’s body will react to this exotic. But absolutely no deviations in behavior or well-being. And judging by the reaction, the dog liked the taste and smell. He is not my foodie at all, but for the croquettes of this food he serves willingly, and follows commands, and learns tricks, as they say, and dances and sings. I will also take other flavors so that the same one does not become boring or, on the contrary, the dog does not become tightly addicted to only this one, but starts to turn up his face at everything else. I like that the manufacturer gave priority to meat ingredients rather than cereals, which are either not included in the composition or are present, but in minute quantities. But there is a lot of fish oil, which is simply necessary for normal life and strong bones and muscles. And for dachshunds this is important, because short thin legs, forced to carry a well-fed carcass, are their weak point.
Reviews from veterinarians
Wellness is quite an interesting option for feeding four-legged friends. The composition of the food is close to natural, however, disadvantages can be found in this finished product. In addition to fresh meat, small amounts of bone meal and dehydrated meat are used in the manufacturing process. It’s also not encouraging that the range does not contain a line of medicinal foods .
These shortcomings are covered by prebiotics and a vitamin-mineral complex, which the manufacturer includes in cat food.
A significant advantage of the finished Wellness product is the elimination of grains during the production process. It is also worth noting the presence of an extensive product line that allows you to choose a ready-made diet for both adult cats and small kittens. Despite the absence of by-products, it still cannot be classified as holistic.
For constant feeding of your pet, it is better to purchase ready-made food made in the USA. These feeds are of the highest quality.
The manufacturer produces ready-made food for cats in packages of 300 g and 1750 g. The granules are medium in size, so the cat makes an effort to chew, which helps clean the teeth and prevents plaque from forming.
Crockex Wellness Dog Food Review
Crockex Wellness dry dog food is produced in Italy by Mister Pet. The official website is https://www.misterpetsrl.com/ (link to the English version), there is information about the composition and recommended feeding rates. This food belongs to the premium class.
Composition of Crockex Wellness food
Let's look at the composition of Crockex Wellness food using the example of the Adult Medio-Maxi Pollo Chicken option (for adult dogs of medium and large breeds, with chicken and rice). You can see it in the image below (click on it to enlarge for easier reading):
On the right is composition data from the manufacturer’s official website. On the left is the translation.
In first place is dehydrated chicken meat (24%). In fourth and seventh places in the composition there is still fresh chicken meat (15%) and fish meal, respectively. These three ingredients are the main sources of protein. There are no ingredients rich in plant protein, we conclude that almost all of the 25% indicated in the analysis is of animal origin.
The second, third and fifth places are occupied by sources of carbohydrates - rice (22%), corn and corn flour, respectively. Chicken fat is a source of fatty acids. Flaxseed is a source of fiber as well as unsaturated fatty acids. Beet pulp is a source of fiber.
Brewer's yeast is rich in B vitamins. Seaweed contains a lot of iodine and vitamins. Sodium chloride is a common table salt, a flavoring additive. MOS (found in yeast extract) and FOS are prebiotics that are beneficial for digestion.
Dried pineapple, pomegranate and raspberry cores are, in theory, sources of fiber and vitamins. However, given their percentage (0.02% and 0.0006%), they are most likely there to make the food seem more attractive to buyers.
First place: not one, but three ingredients.
Ingredient No. 1 is a complex of three components, which the manufacturer combines with the concept “chicken (fresh chicken 16%, dried chicken 16%, meat flour 15%).” Although only the raw or fresh carcass of this bird can be called chicken, all components of this mixture are derivatives of chicken, and the Russian translation “meat meal” is incorrect - in fact, it really is chicken meal (Chicken Meal), and we have corrected the error in the feed card.
At the same time, such a combination of three different components helped the manufacturer bring them to the forefront in the composition, which can be considered a marketing gimmick. True, the total dosage of chicken derivatives in the feed is 47%, and this is not so little.
Crockex Wellness dog food - reviews
So far, Crocex Wellness dog food has not gained much popularity in Russia, so there are practically no reviews about it. Below we have collected the reviews that we were able to find.

Customer Reviews
My dog is picky, and if he doesn’t like it, he can go hungry for days. Not every food will please you. At the same time, he has a sensitive stomach. I bought Crockex Wellness food with duck, since duck is considered a non-allergenic food.
The advantage is that the food is Italian, and not made in Italy to order from Russian manufacturers. The dog liked the food. He eats with pleasure. I will continue to order. But here the temptation arises to try the entire line.
*The photos above are not a direct illustration of the reviews presented in the review.
I’ve been feeding this food for the third week, everything is fine) He eats willingly, there are no allergies, the price is good) In general, I think about allergies that this is mass hysteria. Either chicken or corn, partly nonsense. No, of course someone has it, since 90% of food contains all this, but allergology tests are needed here, I think this is the influence of fashion on holistic medicine...
I tried to feed my dog this food, he turns up his nose at it, doesn’t recognize it, but I don’t know why. Still, he didn’t like something, so they switched again to the old, proven one.
The Most Popular Grain-Free Cat Food Brands
Today this category is in great demand and more and more manufacturers are starting to try themselves in the grain-free field. The most popular are still the best of the long-known brands:
Primordial.
A unique brand originally from Italy, dedicated exclusively to grain-free holistic nutrition, which provides the best professional quality nutrition in this category. Primordial has solutions not only for all adult cats, but also for kittens, sterilized animals, and animals susceptible to urolithiasis.
Bozita.
A Swedish manufacturer whose calling card is profitable and very diverse canned food. Bozita also produces dry food, but not all of it is grain-free.
Monge.
Italian company with more than 50 years of history. Although the main Monge series is stuffed with corn, the manufacturer also offers a grain-free line of BWILD wet and dry food, as well as grain-free Solo and Monoprotein canned food.
Farmina.
A large Italian brand that produces food of all classes from economy to holistic. Low-grain and grain-free formulas are only available in the N&D line.
Conclusions about Crocex Wellness food
Reviews about Crockex Wellness dog food are still rare; you can’t draw conclusions from them. However, the quality can (and should) be judged by the composition, and it is much better here than many premium foods. Taking this into account, the PetObzor website has no reason not to recommend this food.
However, if you have the financial ability to buy super-premium food, then it is better to do so. For example, the Czech food Brit Care is better in composition than Croquettes, but the price is practically the same.
Forum for breeders and lovers of Maine Coon cats
I came across a review of super premium food on one website. Super premium food for cats
Those who have a pet for the first time usually do not know what this super premium food for cats is and how it differs, for example, from premium food for cats. In this article we will talk about the differences and features of “super premiums”, and also tell you which ones are better in composition, which are cheaper, and which are more popular among pet owners. Conventionally, dry cat food is divided into:
- Holistics;
- Super premium class;
- Premium class;
- Economy class.
This list is arranged in descending order of quality (from best at the beginning to worst at the end). Thus, super premium cat food is in second place out of four. A brief description of super premium feed is as follows:
- The source of proteins is meat and meat ingredients, their percentage is indicated. Corn gluten is not used (as in the premium class), sometimes potato or pea protein is present in small quantities.
- The source of carbohydrates is usually rice and oats, sometimes barley, potatoes. These ingredients are easier to digest and less allergenic than the wheat and corn used in premium products.
- Natural preservatives and antioxidants - usually a mixture of tocopherols (essentially vitamin E) and rosemary. If the preservatives/antioxidants used are not specified, then the food can hardly be called super-premium.
Also, representatives of the super premium class are generally significantly richer in composition than premiums. For example, they contain several meat ingredients, more vegetables, more healthy additives, and a better vitamin and mineral supplement.
List of super premium cat foods Many people are interested in which cat foods are super premium and which are not. After all, sellers in pet stores, online stores, and even ordinary pet owners often incorrectly classify this or that food in their reviews. For example, very often brands such as Hills Science Plan, Pro Plan and Royal Canin are called super premium, although the latter is now hardly a premium.

The above list of super premium cat food is not complete; we will add to it as we write new reviews. In our reviews, we study the compositions, so our entire classification is based precisely on quality, and not on manufacturers’ advertising. Holistic food for cats also belongs to the super premium class, but since recently they have been distinguished separately, we have included them in a separate list. You can watch it a little later in a separate article. Rating of super premium food for cats All food actually belonging to the same class is approximately the same in quality. Nevertheless, there are still differences; they lie in the percentage of meat ingredients, sources of carbohydrates, the total number of ingredients in the recipe, and of course, in price. Often, foods that are comparable in composition differ significantly in price; our rating is based on the quality of the composition, price and reviews. Super premium cat food rating:
- Fitmin For Life (manufactured in the Czech Republic)
- Brit Care (made in the Czech Republic)
- Summit (made in Canada)
- Blitz (made in Russia)
- Leonardo (made in Germany)
This rating is subjective and does not claim to be an indisputable truth. In addition, in the future, as new reviews of super premium food are released, the rating presented may be changed. All super premium food is of sufficient quality that it can be fed to cats on an ongoing basis. Therefore, when choosing food from this class, focus not only on the rating and reviews, but also on the convenience of purchasing in your region. Examples of super premium food compositions To confirm our words that more expensive food is not always of higher quality in composition, consider an example. Let's take three foods: Brit Care, Sanabel and Bozita. The first one is one and a half times cheaper than the second one and almost half the price than the third one.
Above is the composition of Brit Care food; Bottom left - composition of Bozita food; Below right is the composition of Sanabelle food.
Feed | Brit Care | Bozita |
Protein sources | Dehydrated chicken 18%, chicken fillet 15%, dehydrated turkey 12%, rice bran (contains about 20% protein), chicken liver 2%. Total protein 34%. | Dry chicken, salmon (Scandinavian, 10%), pork meat meal, hydrolyzed chicken, corn gluten, dry arctic fish, dried egg. Total protein 30%. |
Sources of carbohydrates | Rice, rice bran (contains about 30% carbohydrates). | Baking wheat flour, corn, rice. |

Feed price* | 2 kg - 841 rub. | 2 kg — 1471 rub. |
*The indicated prices are taken from the online pet store “Old Farm”. These are the prices of the Brit Care Angel Delighted Senior and Bozita Funktion Sensitive Hair and Skin formulas, the compositions of which are compared in the table. The table clearly shows that the Czech food “Brit Care” is in no way inferior to the Swedish “Bozita”, even slightly superior to it. For example, rice is better absorbed by the digestive system of cats than wheat flour and corn. Also, the first one does not contain corn gluten, natural preservatives (tocopherols) are used, and it is a good vitamin and mineral supplement. In the second, the preservatives are not specified, the vitamin and mineral supplement is not bad, well, a little worse. Reviews of super premium cat food There is no dry food that is suitable for absolutely all cats. Therefore, even about super premium food there are not only positive, but also negative reviews. Taking this into account, one review about any food will not show the whole picture, and publishing 3-4 reviews about each of the foods listed above in one article will result in too much text. But if you are interested in reviews, then choose which food:
- 1st Choice
- Blitz
- Bozita
- Brit Care
- Dukes Farm
- Fitmin For Life
- Leonardo
- Mealfeel
- Meowing Heads

By clicking on the links above with brand names, you will be taken to reviews of each specific food. Moreover, there you will find a full review with an analysis of the composition, pros and cons, and you can also rate and share your opinion about the food.
Price of super premium food As we noted above, despite the approximately similar composition of super premium cat food, the price can vary greatly. To clearly show how much, we give an example of the cost of some of these feeds:
- 1st Choice 2.72 kg - from 1195 rubles (~660 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Blitz 2 kg - from 363 rub.
- Bozita 2 kg - from 1412 rubles (~1059 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Brit Care 2 kg - from 841 rubles (~630 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Dukes Farm 2 kg - from 1250 rubles (~937 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Fitmin For Life 1.8 kg - from 940 rubles (~783 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Leonardo 2 kg - from 1064 rubles (~795 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Mealfeel 1.5 kg - 950 rub.
- Meowing Heads 1.5 kg - from RUB 1,287
- Monge 1.5 kg - from 870 rub.
- Pronature Original 2.72 kg - from 992 (~547 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Sanabelle 2 kg - from 1259 rubles (~944 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Summit 1.8 kg - from 820 rubles (~683 rubles for 1.5 kg)
- Trainer 1.5 kg - from 1018 rub.
The prices indicated are current at the time of writing - early October 2021. Over time, they can change significantly; the exact cost can be found on pet store websites, links to which are in our food reviews. Conclusion and conclusions From all the information above, the following conclusions can be drawn: the best super premium food is not necessarily the most expensive in its class. And another piece of advice - when choosing dry food for your pet, look not only at the inscription “super premium” on the front side of the package, but also at the composition itself. After all, it does not always correspond to this inscription. In conclusion, we note that there are many articles on the Internet with a list of super premium food for cats. However, most of them are written by human copywriters who have never even seen the brands they are classifying. As a result, the result is full of unreliable information (for example, such that Acana holistic is included in the list of premium feeds, and premium Royal Canin is assigned to the super-premium class). Our list and rating are compiled on the basis of reviews we have made, in which the composition of feeds is studied in detail. But it is on the basis of the composition that dry food is classified into a certain class. That is, the entire classification is based on the quality of the composition and without studying it one cannot call the food economy, premium, super premium or holistic. And, after the review, https://petobzor.com/korma-super-premium-klassa-dlya-koshek-spisok-rejting-otzyvy/ you can read the comments. Perhaps this will be interesting to someone.

Carbohydrates and Supplements
The plant components are approximately the same in all types:
- Peas are more preferable in food for cats and dogs than grains. Contains a lot of vegetable protein, carbohydrates and fiber, while having a low glycemic index.
- Potato protein is a cheap substitute for animal protein with vegetable protein. Incomplete for cats.
- Dried potatoes are better than potato flour, but worse than whole potatoes, since they are processed before they are added to the feed. Source of fiber and complex carbohydrates.
- Dried beets 2-4% - either fodder beets or beet pulp - a source of fiber.
- Fiber is a plant dietary fiber of unknown origin.
- Dried chicory root 0.5% – contains the prebiotic inulin.
- Cranberry – it is not known in what form it was added to the composition. Its effectiveness in preventing urolithiasis has not been scientifically proven, and its presence in food is most likely a marketing ploy.
- Dried kelp is a useful component, but it is hardly added in such quantities that it would provide real benefits to the cat’s body.
- Yucca Schidigera - added to feed to reduce fecal odor.
All foods contain a complex of natural antioxidants, the composition of which has not been disclosed, and you shouldn’t rely too much on them - usually such additives are nothing more than a marketing ploy.
The salmon feed also contains rapeseed oil - since the degree of its purification is not known, we can assume that this is the most inexpensive refined oil. May contain toxic erucic acid, which has a bad effect on the functioning of the heart, blood vessels, liver and other organs. It is best to avoid foods that contain rapeseed oil.
Sterilized contains added glucosamine hydrochloride and chondroitin sulfate, which should have a positive effect on the joints of our pets, but their effectiveness has not been scientifically proven.
Conclusion about the carbohydrate component
They didn’t deceive us, there really is no grain, peas are used as the main carbohydrate ingredient. In the composition of the American food, carbohydrates and other additives are practically no different, but in the Russian version there is no tomato pulp and some natural chicken flavoring.

Hypoallergenic, and even by nature?
The manufacturer positions its product as Naturally Hypoallergenic, which is indicated on the packaging along with the explanation: “NO grain, wheat, wheat gluten, corn, soy, dairy, eggs, beef, artificial colors, flavors or preservatives.” (NO Grains, Wheat, Wheat gluten, Corn, Soya, Dairy, Eggs, Beef, Artificial Colours, Flavors or Preservatives).
This is great, but based on the nature of food allergies, this characteristic of Wellness Core is questionable. The fact is that neither “naturalness” nor the presence or absence of any synthesized substances in itself is a guarantee that an allergic reaction will not occur, because each organism is individual.
And by the way, chicken, which is the basis of this food, according to the observations of veterinarians, causes unwanted manifestations more often than other types of meat. But let’s be fair, food allergies are still not a universal phenomenon, and since the very name of the Wellness Core line translates as “the basis of well-being,” then let’s see what is included in this basis.
