How expensive are Maine Coons?

It’s worth noting right away that keeping Maine Coons is quite expensive. The main costs are for feed.
Representatives of this breed are the largest domestic cats, so they require more food than cats of other breeds. You should also take into account the expensive veterinary care, the purchase of vitamins, and necessary items for care and maintenance. The average cost of maintaining a purebred Maine Coon will cost 5,000-8,000 rubles per month. If the Maine Coon is a participant in exhibitions, then in calculating the total cost of maintenance, you should add the costs of special cosmetics and professional care products or visits to beauty salons for cats, plus the exhibition cage, fees and other related expenses. If such expenses do not frighten future owners, then care should be taken to ensure proper maintenance conditions.

Announcement four

What do we pay attention to in these advertisements?

But here everything is simple, the text of the ad is, in principle, not particularly important. We pay attention first of all to photographs of Maine Coons. In both the first and second cases, Maine Coons are offered for purchase, which do not belong to the seller. Both of these animals, for example, are from our nursery. And they have not participated in breeding work for a long time. How to quickly and easily check whether you are actually being offered to buy a Maine Coon, the photo of which is presented in the ad, or not? Step one: go to the seller’s website and look for additional photos of this kitten. If there is no website (then the best thing is not to buy a Maine Coon there at all), but if you still really want to, then... Step two: go to the website https://www.google.com/, select the “search by image” section there, insert the image that interests us into the search and click search. As a rule, these simple manipulations allow you to accurately understand whether you are being deceived or not. In this case, it is clear that the photo of the Maine Coon was stolen from another site. From our This is Russi Mystic Bonita and Big Kitty Darty Dancer

Step three: if neither the seller’s website nor Google could help, write directly to the seller from the ad and ask for additional photos of the Maine Coon kitten you like from different angles and in good lighting. Ideally, you can even ask for a video of a Maine Coon kitten...

The conclusion from these advertisements is this: in principle, there can be no trust in people who, using other people’s photographs, want to sell you a Maine Coon kitten. They want to deceive you for your own money. Do you need it?

Features of keeping a Maine Coon?

Maine Coons require a lot of space and privacy. Small apartments will contribute to the accumulation of excess energy and can also lead to stress. The inability to run, jump, and climb is a serious discomfort for Maine Coons, so games and space are very important for them.

Maine Coons can play with any toys , but it is advisable that the pet has a small rubber ball (or tennis) and a cat soft toy that he can carry in his teeth. Maine Coons respond with pleasure to games like “fetch the ball” and the like. The choice of toys should be taken responsibly, since an adult Maine Coon is capable of tearing an ordinary feather toy to shreds in five minutes. Therefore, toys must be quite durable to withstand the onslaught of such a big guy.

A personal corner can be the top shelf or the “roof” of a cabinet (sometimes a refrigerator), an armchair or large chair, a bookshelf and similar places that are specially cleared for the Maine Coon. The more non-standard it is, the more attractive it is for the Maine Coon. However, the cat will choose this place for himself; the owners can only agree with the pet’s choice or try to offer an alternative. A personal corner will be a resting place for your pet and its sleeping place; there is no additional need to buy a house or a lounger, unless in combination with a scratching post. Most cat trees sold in pet stores are designed for medium-sized cats, so it will likely take some time to find the right tree for your Maine Coon. If possible, it should be tall, strong (this is especially important, since many “trees” do not withstand even a year of use) and complex.

choose a scratching post very carefully. Maine Coons must be able to stretch to their full height, and it must also be able to withstand heavy use. Rope or 35-centimeter scratching posts, even if they are located high, will not work and will quickly fail, so it is recommended to buy a good cat set. It has only one drawback - its high price.

Mandatory items of content are a tray (toilet) and bowls. It is preferable to have a closed toilet, and ceramic bowls.

Maine Coons are strong animals, they often drag their cups around the floor like dogs, so plastic lightweight bowls are completely unsuitable for them. Ceramic or, in extreme cases, aluminum bowls with rubber “legs”-linings are the best choice. Bowls should be wide (15-20 cm in diameter). This is due to the large size of cats.

Particular attention should be paid to choosing a water bowl. It should be heavy and deep enough, because, in addition to using it for its intended purpose, Maine Coons like to include it in one of their favorite games, “drown the toy.” It is not recommended to scold cats for this - these are their instincts. Instead of a bowl, it is recommended to purchase a special fountain for cats. They are heavier than bowls, come in different sizes and configurations, and the water in them stays clean for a long time thanks to built-in filters.

Also, the content should take into account the fact that cats of this breed do not like to sit on their laps. They will happily sit next to their owner.

The carrying case is useful for keeping it . It is convenient to transport Maine Coons when moving, taking them to an appointment with a veterinarian or an exhibition, taking them on trips, and the like. For winter, you can purchase special warm external or internal covers. It is usually recommended to buy carriers for small dogs because Maine Coon cat carriers are small.

In addition to the usual precautions that are taken before a kitten arrives in the house, you should pay special attention to windows and balconies. An ordinary mosquito net will not support the weight of an adult Maine Coon, and there is a possibility that the cat will use it to fly outside, which is very dangerous. It is necessary to think through this point in advance and put childproof nets or special decorative bars on the windows to prevent them from falling out. Due to the large size of pets, anti-cat nets are not suitable for Maine Coons.

Also, in case of unforeseen situations, there should be first aid supplies for cats in the house.

ARTICLE “WHAT IS THE COST OF A KITTEEN COMPOSED OF”

In this article you will find the answer to your question -

Why is Maine Coon so expensive?

Buyer stereotypes about the cost of a kitten. The price of a Maine Coon kitten is a very exciting question for most people, especially those who have decided to get themselves a purring, furry pet - a Maine Coon kitten. Of course, it is no longer a secret to anyone that the Maine Coon cat is an unusual cat, which differs significantly in size from ordinary domestic cats, this breed has characteristic lynx tufts on its ears, they are graceful, imposing, intelligent, have high intelligence and... home apartments convey true luxury with their appearance, but still, all these aspects do not answer the buyer’s question - why is a Maine Coon kitten expensive and what does the price consist of?

95% of people who want to have such a wonderful friend as a Maine Coon have a number of questions, such as: “Why is it so expensive? It’s kind of expensive... It’s better to buy it on the market” or “Why do you have different prices for different kittens?”, “Oh, your price for kittens is too high... but I saw it much cheaper elsewhere” or “Why do you need a purchase agreement\ sales for a kitten, and there’s no way without it?”...well, and stuff like that... It was questions of this kind that prompted me to share my experience and knowledge with you, as well as the experience and knowledge of professional breeders, which are outlined in this article below. We refute buyer stereotypes regarding the cost of a Maine Coon kitten.

The buyer’s statement “Why is the Maine Coon so expensive?... It’s better to get it cheaper at the market...” I leave without comment, since the choice to buy a kitten is made only by you and only at your responsibility, and the nightmares that are happening in the poultry market are not to be mentioned now I see the point - quite a lot has already been written about this on various web resources and on popular forums! We are all adults, and when purchasing a Maine Coon kitten, you need to understand that the joy of buying a kitten “for cheap” lasts one moment, but the disappointment from the quality received will last for years!

Danger when purchasing a kitten at a reduced price:

First, if you decide to buy a Maine Coon cat “cheaper”, and such breeders are engaged only in pure breeding, reducing ALL their expenses to a minimum in order to squeeze maximum profit from the sale of kittens - this is already a proven fact, YOU have a huge risk of being deceived buyer and purchase a kitten of low breed quality.

The second point is that kittens born from parents who were sold at one time without documents and without breeding rights, in spite of everything, are mated, violating the terms of sale, and as a result there is a danger of acquiring a kitten that is not at all pedigree, but only similar to a Maine Coon. Naturally, such a kitten will not be able to conduct breeding activities in the future, no matter how regrettable this may sound.

Thirdly, as I already mentioned, kittens are sold at 1-1.5 months of age. GUARD! THIS IS EXTREMELY UNACCEPTABLE and not one self-respecting breeder will do this!!!

Fourthly, the kittens are not vaccinated! SOS! Is it dangerous! Despite all this, babies are taken away from their mother early, which has an extremely unfavorable effect on the child’s immune system, and in the future this will certainly affect the kitten’s health, even to the point of death. The next point is that the kittens may be completely out of breed type, the result of an unsuccessful mating. Or the Maine Coon kittens are obtained from random matings, of course the parents are unknown, even if you see the supposed parents of these babies, where is the guarantee that you are not being deceived, iron-clad guarantees can only be given by an officially registered Maine Coon cattery in one of the systems (TICA, WCF, MFA, etc.) and where everything is documented. And due to the fact that, as a rule, the buyer is not strong in such moments, it doesn’t cost the breeders anything to fool YOU around their finger, and the Maine Coon can turn into an ordinary yard urchin, this will be a “pleasant” surprise. Fifth, without documentary evidence with the ancestors of 4 tribes registered in it and complete data about the purchased animal, such an animal will be considered just an ordinary “domus”, similar to a Maine Coon! But you understand that this is no longer Mei Kun - and of course it’s not the same brushes, not the same power and grace, and absolutely not the same intelligence and temperament! Therefore, when buying a kitten without documents, you need to be aware that this animal will only look like a Maine Coon, and accordingly, the other characteristic qualities that distinguish the Maine Coon from another breed will suffer greatly.

After reading all of the above, I hope you will think very carefully before chasing cheapness when choosing a kitten.

And now the question remains - what does the price of a kitten consist of?

Differences between Maine Coon kittens (show, pet, breed, show neuter).

In a registered nursery, the price of a Maine Coon kitten consists of various factors: quality, depending on the Maine Coon’s character and expression of the breed type, the gender of the kitten, and color. Another aspect that can affect the cost of a kitten is the “fame” of its father and mother; kittens from titled, famous parents are much more expensive. Kittens also come in different classes, namely: -PET - for castration -BRID - for breeding work -SHOW - for exhibitions and breeding -SHOW-NEUSTER - neutered for exhibitions

Breeding a cat or a Show-class cat is an invaluable work of the breeder. A lot of energy, money and professionalism goes into selecting the right male and female pairs so that the blood flows well. Only the best representatives of the breed with a high-quality genotype are purchased. As a rule, in a nursery where all animals are carefully and professionally matched to each other along genetic lines, Pet class animals are rarely born. And Show class Maine Coon kittens cannot be cheap in principle. Kittens of this breed can be born of different classes (PET, BREED, SHOW, etc.), and depending on which class the kitten is assigned to, the price for it will depend, although the cost of care is no different from a kitten of another class, since There can be kittens of several classes in the same litter.

This does not mean that kittens of one of the classes are “something different”, no, no!

They were all born from titled parents, they all have elite blood, passed on to them by their father and mother, they are all equally raised, vaccinated and fully adaptive for life in a new loving family, but at the behest of Mother Nature, some kittens have clearly expressed characteristic breed characteristics that are important for their further exhibition career and breeding work, while in others they are less pronounced than required by generally accepted breed standards.

In general, there are a lot of different aspects that can add plus or minus to the show value of a particular kitten! If you liked a kitten, and it turned out to be not show class, how should you react? Peace of mind and only peace of mind, in fact, you won’t even notice the subtleties, unless you are purchasing a kitten for the purpose of breeding and an exhibition career, but just want to buy yourself a furry pet!

An animal's lack of ability to reproduce does not in any way affect its breed.

Sometimes, for various reasons, not only small kittens are sold, but also completely adult animals. Many people are put off by the fact that the animal is already an adult, but the fact that the animal is no longer a child also has its own very significant positive aspects - the grown-up animal is already completely independent, its teeth have changed and its bite is clearly visible, the characteristic breed characteristics that small kittens can change with age; sometimes a Maine Coon breeder even manages to show the kitten to an expert at an exhibition, who gives a professional assessment of its breed qualities! Coons, due to their kindness, sincerity and love for people, easily get used to new owners at any age, as long as they are truly loved!

Maine Coon prices are different for everyone, starting from 30,000 rubles. up to 80,000 rub. - depending on many parameters.

Where does Maine Coon breeding work begin?

Breeding work begins with the breeder acquiring cats and female cats. A cat or cat (show quality) for the nursery's breeding program will cost the breeder from 45,000 to 100,000 rubles. each, again the price of a Maine Coon depends on the prestige of the nursery where the animals are purchased, and on the breed qualities of the animals themselves.

Expenses at exhibitions. Nurseries that do not just receive kittens and sell them, but are engaged in breeding activities, are never limited to breeding assessments. They constantly take part in exhibitions, show their animals to experts, and participate in specialty rings. For example, the participation of one animal in an exhibition costs the breeder an average of 3,600 rubles. and participation of one animal in the rings on average 1000 rubles. Total about 5000 rubles. you need to prepare for one animal and one exhibition in the hometown where the nursery is located, and if the exhibition is in Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Perm, Surgut, Moscow, St. Petersburg, then you will add another 5,000 - 10,000 rubles. for accommodation and travel to the exhibition site. In total, one exhibition can cost 15,000 rubles. Please note that nurseries, as a rule, exhibit several animals at the same time. But there are also transportation costs and living expenses. To obtain titles higher than Champion, business trips to other federal districts and even countries are required. Plus the cost of obtaining required documents. Participation in at least 4 exhibitions per year is required. A veterinary certificate costs approximately 400 rubles. (issued by the veterinary service for each exhibition separately).

To close the title of World Champion in the WCF system, for example, you need to receive 18 judges’ ratings, multiply by the cost of one rating of 2000 rubles. we get 36,000 rubles. In fact, the breeder bears more expenses, due to the fact that the last titles are closed at several exhibitions, for example, Ekaterinburg, Ukraine, Belarus. In other words, the cost of obtaining a title is many times higher.

Let’s also remember that in addition to participation in the Maine Coon cat exhibition itself, there are other costs, such as exhibition tents - 2500 - 6000 rubles. per piece, because the breeder exhibits several animals at the same time, and one tent is not enough. Carriers cost the breeder from 1000 to 2500 rubles. Well, a very important aspect is grooming products, which are quite expensive, so we can safely estimate the cost of exhibition cosmetics to be about 30,000 rubles. in year. (because cats use a lot of cosmetics due to their size)

Why are exhibitions needed, you ask, for prestige? No, not just for prestige. They are needed so that the nursery can adequately assess its activities and whether it is moving in the right direction in the development of the breed. After all, if an animal wins exhibitions and rings, this means that the animals are not just of good quality, they are one of the best representatives of the breed. That’s why you can often see the phrase “kittens from titled parents” in advertisements for the sale of kittens. This is a guarantee that you are purchasing a quality breeding animal, but again the title must be confirmed by a certificate issued by a licensed club.

Makecoon expenses for “veterinary care”.

I would like to note that breeding animals in the nursery require special treatment and regularly receive professional veterinary care, these are:

• Annual examinations before vaccination - about 5,000 rubles. Passing the necessary tests before mating costs approximately from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles. for 1 animal.

• Breeding animals are required to be vaccinated once a year - about 1000 rubles per animal. Calling a veterinarian to your home costs between 3,000 and 5,000 rubles. (if necessary) Vet. preparations, vitamins, medicines, homeopathy for pregnant and lactating cats - from 3,000 rubles. and up to 7000 rub./month. (and maybe much higher, depending on the specific situation, we take average figures) Vaccinations - one vaccination - from 500 to 1,000 rubles. per kitten (if, for example, 8 kittens were born in a litter, we believe that vaccination per litter will cost, if we take the minimum costs 500 * 8 = 4000 rubles) before the Maine Coon kitten moves to new loving parents, vaccination is done twice from the moment of birth , that is, we multiply the amount of one vaccination by two, we get 4000 * 2 = 8000 rubles.

• Obstetrics – from RUB 3,000. and higher, depending on the situation. According to the rules of the WCF system, weaning kittens from a cat is allowed no earlier than 3 months of age!!!

• Castration of male kittens – from 500 rubles.

• Sterilization of cat kittens – from 900 rubles.

• Veterinary passport – from 50 rub.

• Confirmation of vaccinations by a veterinary station – from 150 rubles.

Costs of the make-kun nursery before breeding a female cat.

• Mating (depending on the breed) from 25,000 to 50,000 rubles. (as a rule, mating is equated to the average cost of a kitten of this breed; only matings of titled animals are taken into account).

Cattery expenses after the birth of kittens.

Registration of a litter and issuance of a pedigree for one kitten – 1,500 rubles.

• Feeding (food, additives, bait, if necessary, cat milk replacer, etc.) – from 3000 rubles. /month

• Activation of a kitten in the club - from 200 rubles.

• Sale of make-coon kittens at the exhibition - from 1,800 rubles. To this cost we add the cost for the stay at the exhibition itself, on average 2000 rubles. The average cost of selling makecoon kittens at an exhibition costs a breeder almost 4,000 rubles.

• Pedigree of Mei Coon – from 500 rub.

Other Maine Coon expenses.

Which toilet is suitable for a Maine Coon?

The ideal toilet for a Maine Coon would be a closed box with a door for small dogs. Trays are not very suitable for such large cats as Maine Coons, because they must be quite large in size for the cats to fit comfortably in them, and they must also have the highest possible sides, which, however, in any case will not help to completely preserve filler inside when pets start burying. The minimum dimensions of a tray for Maine Coons are 40x80 cm with a side height of at least 10 cm.

You should know that some cats suffer from claustrophobia (fear of enclosed spaces), so if your pet refuses to go to the indoor toilet, just remove the lid and see what he does. If it is not possible to buy a closed toilet, then you can reduce the labor costs for cleaning by laying a rug on the floor. You can simply shake it out, and the cats will be able to leave the litter on it when they go out and stick to their paws.

Also a financially beneficial option is a tray with a mesh. When choosing a tray of any type, you need to remember about the high sides and the corresponding dimensions. Some breeders recommend buying two litter boxes (toilet boxes) at once, since some cats are very clean and refuse to go into a dirty litter box or prefer one for “small” matters, and the second for “big” ones. The thickness of the filler layer should be at least 5 cm (a thickness of 7-10 cm is considered optimal). The filler must be completely changed once a week. When changing the filler, do not forget to wash the tray (toilet) itself with a light disinfectant without a strong and pungent odor.

Some Maine Coon owners use heavy, deep concrete mixing trays or storage containers instead of a litter box. Such trays have quite high sides, and since most of them are made of plastic, you can cut out a “door” on the side yourself.

If you work all day, then an automatic cat litter box is your best option. In this case, it will always be clean, but such toilets are quite expensive. Not everyone can afford it.

Article on the topic Maine Coon

The tray (toilet) should be in a quiet place so that the cat is not disturbed at the most inopportune moment. You may need to change the location of the litter box several times to find out where your cat is most comfortable. It doesn’t matter where the toilet will be located, the main thing is that the pet always has free access to it.

What does the price of a kitten consist of?

In this article you will find the answer to the question that concerns you - why is the Maine Coon so expensive?

Buyer stereotypes about the cost of a kitten.

The price of a Maine Coon kitten is a very exciting question for most people, especially those who have decided to get themselves a furry pet - a Maine Coon kitten. The only exception is when a kitten is purchased by a professional breeder for his nursery for breeding. Of course, it is no longer a secret that a Maine Coon cat is a cat that differs significantly in size from ordinary domestic cats. This breed has characteristic lynx tufts on its ears; they are graceful, imposing, intelligent, have high intelligence, and with their appearance they bring true luxury to home apartments. It was these kinds of questions that prompted me to share my experience and knowledge with you.

We refute buyer stereotypes regarding the cost of a Maine Coon kitten.

Buyer's Statement “Why is Maine Coon so expensive? It’s better to get it cheaper at the market...” I leave without comment, since the choice about buying a kitten is up to you, and I don’t see any point in mentioning the nightmares that are happening in the bird market now - there’s already enough and a lot written about it on various websites. resources and on popular forums! We are all adults, and when purchasing a Maine Coon kitten, you need to understand that the joy of buying a kitten “for cheap” does not last long, but the disappointment from the quality received will last for years!

Myth: Maine Coon cattery is a business.

There is an opinion that breeders “build a business” with kittens, I hasten to assure you that this is far from true, since professional breeding of purebred Maine Coon cats is an expensive hobby,

BUT not a business. Yes, yes, you heard right, this is a hobby that requires considerable expenses, both material and mental. A real breeder in his nursery puts a piece of himself, his soul, a sea of love and care into each cat, and, as a rule, these furry friends are full members of the family, and if people do this solely for money, these are real “breeders” ! There are a very large number of Maine Coon breeders in Moscow and the Moscow region, in Samara, St. Petersburg, Chelyabinsk, but this is not surprising, in these cities and regions there is the largest concentration of catteries of the breed Maine Coon, the most important thing is to know who you want to buy the animal from. How to choose the right cattery and Maine Coon kitten, read the special article “How to choose a Maine Coon kitten for breeding.”

Be careful, "breeders"!

Advertisement in the newspaper: “Maine Coon is inexpensive!”

Unfortunately, “breeders” grow like mushrooms, engage in uncontrolled breeding, without thinking about the development of the breed, and there is no need to talk about moral responsibility here. It really upsets me when owners put the breeding of Maine Coons purely on the commercial stream, where the race is for maximum profit at minimum cost. And, we must understand that with such a selfish approach, all principles of health and quality of the breed are violated. Such breeders give away a kitten at an early age of 1.5 months (which is prohibited by breed standards). Kittens are often weak and not entirely healthy, plus they are maladapted. And as a result, the new owner of the kitten, instead of receiving joy from acquiring a new pet, begins to solve emerging problems with health and adaptation in the new home, yes, that’s right. And of course it is not surprising that the price of such a kitten differs greatly from the price of a kitten purchased in a professional nursery. I won’t be lazy and write down all the points that I remember about why Maine Coon kittens bought “cheaper” are “dangerous” for the buyer.

Dangers when purchasing a kitten from “breeders”.

First, if you still decide to buy a Maine Coon kitten “cheaper” (and such breeders are engaged only in pure breeding, reducing ALL their expenses to a minimum in order to squeeze out the maximum profit from the sale of kittens - this is already a proven fact)

If you liked a kitten, and it turned out to be not show class, how to react? Peace of mind and only peace of mind, in fact, you won’t even notice the subtleties, unless you are purchasing a kitten for the purpose of breeding and an exhibition career, but just want to buy yourself a furry pet!

If you purchase a pet for castration or sterilization, a professional nursery must provide a pedigree. An animal's lack of ability to reproduce does not in any way affect its breed.

Sometimes, for various reasons, not only small kittens are sold, but also completely adult animals. Many people are put off by the fact that the animal is already an adult. But the fact that the animal is no longer a child also has its own very significant positive aspects - the grown-up animal is already completely independent, its teeth have changed and its bite is clearly visible, the characteristic breed characteristics are more clearly manifested, which in small kittens can change with age. Sometimes a Maine Coon breeder even manages to show the kitten to an expert at an exhibition, who gives a professional assessment of its breed qualities! Coons, due to their kindness, sincerity and love for people, easily get used to new owners at any age, as long as they are truly loved!

Why is it worth buying a Maine Coon kitten from a cattery?!

A call to everyone - purchase a kitten only from a professional registered single-breed cattery. Because the cattery is registered in one of the felinological systems of the world and is a member of the cat lovers club.

Animals participating in the nursery program are exhibited at exhibitions. Cats and cats are taken to examinations, where they are examined by an expert and given a grade. An expert’s assessment provides a guarantee that the animal really has the breed characteristics that are needed to be awarded titles at an exhibition. Titles start with Breed Champion and end with the highest title - World Champion. In addition, some nurseries are ranked according to several rating systems at once and then the titles are closed in each system separately.

Maine Coon prices are different for everyone, from 30,000 rubles. up to 80,000 rub. depending on many parameters.

Where does the breeding work of the Maine Coon nursery begin?

The breeding work of the nursery begins with the breeder purchasing cats and female cats. A cat or cat (show quality) for the nursery's breeding program will cost the breeder from 45,000 to 100,000 rubles. each, again the price of a Maine Coon depends on the prestige of the nursery where the animals are purchased, and on the breed qualities of the animals themselves.

Nursery expenses at exhibitions.

Total about 5000 rubles. you need to prepare for one animal and one exhibition in your hometown, where the nursery is located, and if the exhibition is located in Chelyabinsk, Tyumen, Novosibirsk, Perm, Surgut, Moscow, St. Petersburg, then add the cost of accommodation and travel to the exhibition site.

Please note that nurseries, as a rule, exhibit several animals at the same time.

Let us also remember that in addition to participation in the Maine Coon cat exhibition itself, there are other costs, such as exhibition tents - from 4000 rubles. per piece, because the breeder exhibits several animals at the same time, and one tent is not enough. Carriers cost the breeder from 1000 to 3000 rubles. Well, a very important aspect is grooming products, which are quite an expensive pleasure, so we feel free to consider the cost of

exhibition cosmetics about 30,000 rubles. in year. (because cats use a lot of cosmetics due to their size)

Why do catteries participate in cat shows?

Why are exhibitions needed, you ask, for prestige? No, not just for prestige. They are needed so that the nursery can adequately assess its activities and whether it is moving in the right direction in the development of the breed. After all, if an animal wins exhibitions and rings, this means that the animals are not just of good quality, they are one of the best representatives of the breed. That’s why you can often see the phrase “kittens from titled parents” in advertisements for the sale of kittens. This is a guarantee that you are purchasing a quality breeding animal, but again the title must be confirmed by a certificate issued by a licensed club.

Expenses of the Maine Coon cattery for “veterinary services”.

I would like to note that breeding animals in the nursery require special treatment and regularly receive professional veterinary care, these are:

— Annual examinations before vaccination – about 5,000 rubles.

— Passing the necessary tests before mating – approximately from 3,000 to 5,000 rubles. for 1 animal.

- Breeding animals are required to be vaccinated once a year - about 1000 rubles. for 1 animal.

Calling a veterinarian to your home costs between 3,000 and 5,000 rubles. (if necessary).

Vet. preparations, vitamins, medicines, homeopathy for pregnant and lactating cats - from 3,000 rubles. and up to 7000 rub./month. (and maybe much higher, depending on the specific situation, we take average numbers).

Vaccinations - one vaccination - from 650 to 1,000 rubles. per kitten (if, for example, 8 kittens were born in a litter, we believe that vaccination per litter will cost, if we take the minimum costs, 650 * 8 = 5200 rubles). Before the Maine Coon kitten moves to new loving parents, vaccination is done twice from the moment of birth, that is, the amount of one vaccination is multiplied by two, we get 5200 * 2 = 10400 rubles.

• Obstetrics – from RUB 3,000. and higher, depending on the situation. According to the rules of the WCF system, weaning kittens from a cat

allowed no earlier than 3 months of age!!!

• Castration of male kittens – from 1500 rubles.

• Sterilization of cat kittens – from 2500 rub.

• Veterinary passport – from 50 rub.

• Confirmation of vaccinations by a veterinary station – from 150 rubles.

Expenses of a Maine Coon cattery before breeding a female cat.

Mating (depending on the breed) from 25,000 to 50,000 rubles. (as a rule, mating is equated to the average cost of a kitten of this breed; only matings of titled animals are taken into account).

Cattery expenses after the birth of kittens.

Registration of a litter and issuance of a pedigree for one kitten – 1000 rubles.

• Feeding (food, supplements, bait, if necessary, cat milk replacer, etc.) – from 3000 rubles. /month

• Activation of a kitten in the club - from 200 rubles.

• Sale of Maine Coon kittens at the exhibition - from 1,800 rubles. To this cost we add the cost for the stay at the exhibition itself, on average 2000 rubles. The average cost of selling Maine Coon kittens at an exhibition costs the breeder almost 4,000 rubles.

Other expenses of the Maine Coon cattery.

Special attention to food quality:

• Eating only holistic food. No food that is advertised on TV and sold in supermarkets and “cheap pet eateries”! Our animals are fed holistic food.

• Litter litter - in our nursery we give preference to super premium class litter.

And one more thing - toys, scratching posts, beds and so on, do not fall from the sky and these are also expenses, and naturally, the breeders who raise these miracle coonets for you in their nursery need to pay a salary, because the time spent, love, care, nerves and sleepless nights - this huge and painstaking work of the breeder!

As we can see, having considered the costs of the nursery, it becomes clear that a kitten in such a nursery cannot be cheap.

And now you can decide for yourself in what conditions and how the cat was raised, if the cost of a Maine Coon kitten is from 8,000 rubles?

Now do you understand why and why the price of a Maine Coon kitten starts from 800 euros? If you have seriously decided to purchase a kitten of this beautiful breed, then I think that you will succeed if you really have good intentions and love for this priceless and wonderful breed!

What litter is best for a Maine Coon?

Often the cat (not the owner) decides which litter she likes best . Sometimes you have to change several types of fillers to find one that suits both. Today there are several types of fillers on the market: clumping, absorbent, wood, clay, mineral, silica gel, natural (from grain waste, corn and cellulose). Each type has pros and cons. For example, many people complain that clay fillers create a lot of dust.

For kittens, it is recommended to use environmentally friendly litter made from grains and corn. They are safe for kittens. But it is better not to use clumping fillers, since they contain sodium bentonite, which tends to swell when wet. When a cat licks itself, it licks off particles of this mineral, they enter the stomach and swell there. In large quantities, this filler can lead to blockage of the kitten's intestines.

Regardless of the type of filler, it must be regularly changed completely approximately once a week. Carefully read the section in the instructions on how to dispose of this type of litter, since most types cannot be flushed down the toilet.

Is it possible to walk with a Maine Coon?

Whether the pet will go for a walk or not must be decided right away, because the older the animal is, the more stress it will endure if it finds itself on a noisy street. Little kittens are receptive to the world, their fear quickly passes, giving way to natural curiosity.

This is perhaps the only cat breed that can be walked with on a leash. A harness can also be used. Before starting walks, you should take care of vaccination and quarterly preventive deworming.

Letting your Maine Coon go outside without a leash is dangerous. The main danger that awaits him on the street, oddly enough, is people, their envy and desire to have such a miracle without paying a penny. In addition, transport, parasites, other animals, etc. pose a danger.
