    Milprazone is a combined anthelmintic characterized by the presence of nematodocidal and cestodocidal effects. It is intended for oral administration. Among the active ingredients of the medicine you can see two substances called praziquantel and milbemycin oxime. They are characterized by a wide spectrum of antiparasitic action.

    Milprazone is an effective anthelmintic for cats

    There are many anti-worm medications produced and new commercial names are constantly appearing, but the active ingredients remain the same: praziquantel, pyrantel, febantel...

    Milprazone comes in two varieties. This is convenient for the consumer. The first variety is indicated for animals weighing up to 2 kg (including kittens). It is characterized by the content of 4 mg of milbemycin oxime and 10 mg of praziquantel. The second variety is indicated for cats weighing more than 2 kg. These pills contain 16 mg and 40 mg of active ingredients respectively. Tablets of the first type are distinguished by a brownish-yellow tint, the second - brownish-red. They have a meaty taste.

    Both types of tablets are enriched with auxiliary components:

    • meat flavoring,
    • povidone,
    • microcrystalline cellulose,
    • silicon,
    • lactose monohydrate,
    • croscarmellose sodium,
    • magnesium stearate,
    • red iron oxide.

    In blisters you can find 2 or 4 biconvex pills in a shell. The package containing the medicine must contain an instruction insert.

    If you have toxascarides

    These roundworms are usually called roundworms. More often they occur in adult animals. For a long time they do not have a significant effect on health.

    How to identify an infestation:

    • The pet is developing too slowly. The fact is that worms absorb most of the nutrients and lead to toxicity of the body;
    • The animal's fur and skin have noticeably deteriorated;
    • If the belly has become very large, many owners believe that the pet is eating a lot. But its pear-shaped shape may mean infection with a dangerous parasite;
    • Diarrhea often occurs after constipation;
    • If it penetrates the lungs, a prolonged cough appears without the appearance of sputum.

    If there are too many worms, they often close the intestinal lumen. This leads to intestinal volvulus and rapid exhaustion of the body. Unfortunately, there is a possibility of intestinal rupture and death as a result of fatal bleeding.

    How it works

    The action of the drug is based on damage to the central nervous system and muscle tissue of worms belonging to the groups of cestodes and nematodes. This ensures the extermination of helminths with their subsequent removal from the body in feces.

    The active substance, called milbemycin oxime, is a macrocyclic lactone. It is formed when the enzymes of Streptomyces hygroscopicus are activated. The substance acts on worms and their larvae, belonging to the class of worms, in the gastrointestinal tract of the animal. Under the influence of milbemycin, chlorine ions begin to actively penetrate cell membranes. A strong polarization of membranes in muscle and nervous tissue occurs, which works to exterminate helminths.

    From the moment of oral administration, the concentration of oxime in the cat's blood reaches its peak after 2-3 hours. The substance is removed unchanged after ½ day naturally.

    Milprazone destroys helminths and removes them from the cat’s body along with feces

    Praziquantel is assigned the role of a complementary element that works against the development of tapeworms. Thanks to it, calcium ions penetrate into the area of nematode cell membranes. This leads to the death of the parasite. The substance begins to act an hour after it enters the body. It is excreted along with the cat’s urine after 3–4 hours in the form of inactive metabolites.

    Milprazone is characterized by the third hazard class. Strict adherence to the dosage does not lead to pathogenic changes in the offspring. Cats of all breeds and age groups have good tolerance of the active components. This medication is toxic to aquatic organisms (fish, mollusks, crustaceans and other inhabitants of the underwater world) and bees.

    Indications for use

    Milprasone is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of nematodes and cystodeses. Its use is advisable in the following cases:

    • helminthiases, which are caused by parasitic worms of the genus hookworm, Toxocara;
    • infections caused by cucumber tapeworm, worms from the Tenid family, and echinococci.

    Milprasone is also prescribed to prevent a disease called dirofilariasis. This pathology is caused by the parasitic roundworms Dirofilariaimmitis. The main substances are active against microfilariae (dirofilaria larvae).

    Interesting! Dirofilariasis is transmitted through the bites of mosquitoes that carry microfilariae. The larvae live in the cat's heart, where they grow into adults. This leads to severe complications and death from pulmonary artery blockage. More often than not, the only solution for dirofilariasis is surgery. Milprazone prevents microfilariae from developing and leads to their death.

    Who is it shown to?

    Milprazone is indicated for cats to get rid of helminthiasis in diseases caused by larvae and adult worms:

    • cestodes (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia spp., Echinococcus spp.)
    • nematodes (Ancylostoma tubaeforme, Toxocara cati, Dirofilaria immitis).

    The medication is also used for nematodes-cestodosis lesions.

    The medicine is also recommended by veterinarians to prevent the threat of helminthiasis. Taking it for 30 days prevents the likelihood of dirofilariasis.

    Worms have a mechanical and biochemical effect on the body. Let's look at the mechanical first:

    1. Once in the animal's body, helminths migrate from one organ to another and damage tissue.
    2. Adults are fixed in a certain place (for example, in the intestines), for this they use suction cups, hooks, they simply burst apart, again causing injuries.
    3. Parasites grow and can compress large blood vessels, internal organs, and cause intestinal obstruction or rupture.

    In my opinion, it is advisable for anyone who has a cat at home to take prophylactic antiparasitic drugs like Milprazone for their pets. Many Murzik owners mistakenly believe that if their pet is not outdoors, there is no reason to be afraid that it will become infected with worms. Actually this is not true. My cat Boniface, although he doesn’t walk in the yard, has encountered this problem. Suspecting the presence of parasites in our pet, we went to the veterinary clinic. The veterinarian attributed the helminthic infestation in our cat to the animal’s consumption of raw meat. This is the most common reason leading to the appearance of parasites in pets, according to the doctor. Both owners and their guests can bring parasites into their homes on shoes. For this reason, pets, even those deprived of the opportunity to contact nature and street animals, are susceptible to worms. After Boniface has undergone treatment, we regularly provide him with anthelmintic prophylaxis. It is better to prevent the problem than for the animal to get sick later and pose a threat of infection with worms for household members who do not let go of it.

    Personal prevention measures

    When working with Milprazone tablets for cats, you must follow safety precautions and personal hygiene rules developed by the manufacturer . In particular, it is prohibited:

    • allow particles of the drug to come into contact with the skin, mucous membranes and eyes (affected areas should be rinsed generously with cool running water);
    • contact with the drug if you have a previously identified allergy to any of the components present in its composition;
    • use empty bottles of tablets for household purposes (the packaging should be disposed of along with other waste).

    If the drug accidentally enters the human body and if allergic reactions to the tablets develop, it is necessary to seek professional medical help as soon as possible. You should have the medicine label or instructions for use with you.

    Features of correct use of the drug

    Antihelminthic medicine for cats Milprazone is taken once. The instructions recommend giving the tablet mixed with food. You can also force the animal to swallow it by placing the pill on the tongue and closing the pet's mouth.

    Milprasone is given to the animal with food or by pushing a tablet into the mouth

    Individuals weighing up to 1 kg should be given half a brownish-yellow pill; up to 2 kg. - kiss.

    Cats weighing 2 to 4 kg are given half a brownish-reddish tablet at a time, cats weighing from 4 to 8 kg are given a whole tablet, and cats weighing from 4 to 8 kg are given one and a half pieces.

    The package insert for the medication does not contain recommendations for fasting before treatment with Milprazone.

    For cats, deworming is recommended after consultation with a veterinary clinic. For prevention, this measure is used once a quarter. It is mandatory to carry out anthelmintic therapy before the mating process and vaccination of the cat.

    There are huge differences in deworming animals and humans. A person is always subjected to therapeutic deworming when the type of parasite is known, and the most suitable drug for a given diagnosis is selected.

    This also occurs in cats if the parasite is known. However, for preventive deworming, when a drug is given for prophylaxis, a combined or broad-spectrum drug is chosen in order to rid the animal of the most common parasites.

    Use for offspring and pregnant cats

    The process of ridding pregnant and lactating cats of helminthic infestation is carried out only under the supervision of a specialist. In such cases, the dosage is reduced.

    Kittens under six months old and weighing up to 0.5 kg are not prescribed the medicine. In the younger generation undergoing anthelmintic treatment with Milprazone, adverse reactions occur more often than in sexually mature individuals.

    When is the drug prescribed?

    Based on the instructions for use, as well as numerous reviews, Milprazone for cats is prescribed when one of the following diagnoses is established:

    • Associative invasion of mixed type.
    • Nematodosis.
    • Cestodosis.

    In addition to obvious infection with parasites, Milprazone can be given to an animal as a prophylaxis against helminths, as well as to prevent the occurrence of dirofilariasis.

    Information about contraindications and similar effects of Milprazone

    Among the contraindications for use, in addition to six months of age, you can see:

    • renal failure;
    • presence of liver dysfunction;
    • hypersensitivity to the ingredients of the product;
    • weakened state of the animal;
    • elderly age;
    • the presence of infectious and viral diseases.

    Data from veterinary practice indicate that this medicine is well tolerated by animals. Its use is rarely complicated by side effects. The latter are observed more often in kittens in the form of diarrhea, vomiting, lethargy and apathy, and ataxia.

    Taking Milprazone in rare cases causes side effects in cats such as nausea, vomiting, lethargy

    Similar symptoms are inherent in an overdose. As a rule, its symptoms go away on their own within a day. However, if this does not happen, you urgently need to show your pet to a veterinarian.

    Feedback from cat owners

    We carry out deworming every six months. It is necessary, of course, more often, but the cat is old and it’s just a pity to overload her liver. We have always used Melbimax, but recently the pharmacy recommended an analogue, Milprazone. I read about him in reviews. I was pleased with the price. The ingredients are the same, Lynx ate it with pleasure. The effect was not long in coming. Ira, 18 years old

    We take Milprazone for a cat who lives in the country and for a domestic cat. Their immunity is different, but no side effects were noticed. I am especially pleased that he eats them without being forced. He simply ignores other medications. We have been using the tablets for three years now. We don’t plan to change – everything suits us. Valentina, 26 years old

    I really liked Milprazone: small tablets that the kitten eats without leaving a trace. There are no hysterics about taking the medicine. An excellent option to get rid of worms. The price is also affordable. Katya, 20 years old

    Information on storage conditions for Milprazone

    The drug can be stored in an opened blister for 6 months. The remaining unused piece of tablet should be wrapped in foil. It will be useful for another six months.

    Unopened, the medicine can be stored for no more than two years. The following conditions must be observed:

    • store at a temperature range from +5 to +25 °C;
    • the storage location should be dry and protected from the sun's rays;
    • medicine has no place near food and feed;
    • Pets and children should not have access to the medication.

    Taking veterinary medication that has expired is prohibited. It is fraught with serious consequences for the health of the animal in the form of failures of the nervous and digestive systems. Death is also possible.

    If there is a cucumber tapeworm

    This helminth is detected mainly in street cats. It has no symptoms of infection, but multiplies too quickly. There are many segments in his body and eggs in each. Therefore, many new worms appear in the intestines.

    Unfortunately, in this case, even Milprazone does not always help after one tablet. But 2-3 techniques can save the life of a four-legged pet.

    Due to the fact that the price of Milprazone for cats is affordable for most Russians. This medicine has become very popular among domestic breeders and dog and cat lovers.
