How to give?

The pet should receive the portion of food that is necessary for its weight.
Recommendations for feeding cats with Gemon food are presented in the form of instructions, which can be found on the cat food packaging. Manufacturers assure that you can give your purr as much food as required to maintain its optimal weight. If the pet’s body weight is excessive or there are pathological conditions, then the daily norm is limited in accordance with the recommendations of the veterinarian. After opening the package, it is recommended to pour dry granules into other containers that are tightly closed with a lid, and wet food should be fed to the purr immediately and not left for next time.

When feeding your cat Gemon ready-to-eat food, it is important that she always has access to clean, fresh water.

There is little protein, so the cat will not gain weight on this food.

Gemon Cat Hairball is another dry food option for animals over a year old, enriched with acids and fiber. In addition to meat and meat by-products, it contains hydrolyzed chicken liver, salmon flour and oil, and vitamin E. Helps remove excess hair from the cat’s stomach.

Negative reviews

I want to share my bad luck with this food. We have a cattery of more than 20 cats, we fed this food for 3 months, and 4 cats on this food developed urolithiasis. Those who are older have kidney stones, those who are younger have crystals and blood in their urine. One cat was barely saved! I have been breeding cats for more than 12 years and we have never had this happen with any super-premium or premium food. I would like to note that this food affects cats; this has not been observed in cats. But still, we switched our animals to regular super-premium Monge food, it is of higher quality and does not cause such problems.

I bought canned chicken for my cat on the advice of a pet store. I liked the composition. On the first day we ate it with a bang, but then things got worse. The next day, our stool became upset, the cat began to bury food, and then, for the first time (probably out of spite), we went to the toilet not in the tray, but in the middle of the room.

  • Food additives: A, E, D3, taurine, choline chloride, manganese sulfate monohydrate, zinc oxide, copper sulfate, ferrous sulfate, DL-methionine, yeast.

Varieties

Chicken based food is suitable for small pets.
Manufacturers offer potential consumers the following types of Gemon feed:

  • “Djimon” with chicken 1.5 kg. A complete diet with chicken pieces, which is recommended for kittens from the first month of life. This food is perfect for cats that bear and feed cats. The food contains a vitamin complex, mineral elements and proteins that promote normal growth and development of the pet. In addition to chicken, the recipe contains fish and jelly-like substances.
  • Gemon Cat Pouch with vegetables and rabbit meat. Wet food is designed for active pets aged from 1 to 10 years. It includes natural fiber, fats, retinol, protein, oils and tocopherol.
  • "Gemon" with vegetables and beef. The diet is enriched with minerals, vitamins E, A and cholecalciferol.
  • “Jemon” with turkey meat. The food is designed for cats over 11 years of age. Includes oils, fiber, protein and retinol, plus turkey meat and minerals.
  • Gemon Cat Urinary. Packaged in 400 g packaging. Produced by manufacturers to prevent the accumulation of stones in urine in adult cats. It represents a balanced diet with a low content of Mg ions and a complex of fatty acids, which reduce inflammatory foci and relieve allergic reactions. Plus, the food effectively reduces increased gas formation in the intestines.
  • "Djimon Kat Sterilized." Designed for sterilized cats over 1 year of age. The diet is perfectly digestible and its uniquely selected formula supports liver function and provides reliable prevention of obesity, which is what pets usually face after sterilization. The food additionally includes beneficial bacteria that improve the functioning of the gastrointestinal tract and boost the immune system.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Gemon brand food can be purchased in almost any pet supply store and department of any large supermarket.
  • They are very cheap and affordable for most buyers.
  • The line is extensive: there is dry and wet food, there are treats. Each has several options for all ages, there are also specialized ones: with enzymes for removing hairballs from the stomach; for individuals prone to urolithiasis, etc.
  • Good ratio of vitamins and minerals.
  • Contains no gluten, artificial colors, hydrogenated fats, or monosodium glutamate.
  • The feed contains technological additives - thickeners and antioxidants - whose names are not indicated on the packaging. Antioxidants are needed to protect cells from the negative effects of radicals, but it is natural antioxidants that bring benefits, not chemically created ones.
  • Dry food contains corn. Yes, it is a highly nutritious vegetable that contains a lot of carbohydrates, but this option is better suited for humans, not animals. Both cats and dogs receive the bulk of their energy from fats, and only then from proteins and carbohydrates. And they should not be vegetable, but meat. Carnivores digest plant protein very poorly; in addition, corn starch provokes obesity and increases the glycemic index. Plus, it often causes allergies.
  • Some types of food do not indicate which grains are added. If it is oatmeal or buckwheat, this is not bad, but rice, wheat and corn, when consumed frequently, have a negative effect on the body.
  • The wording “meat ingredients” is very streamlined. The lack of specifics raises questions and thoughts that the manufacturer clearly has nothing to boast about here and, most likely, useless meat waste has been added to the feed.

Advantages and weaknesses

Despite the mediocre composition, the Djimon series food corresponds to the premium class. The food is varied. There is food for kittens and sterilized animals. It contains components that remove lumps of swallowed hair from the body. In addition to dry granulated food, the diet can be varied with pates or canned food. Consumers consider the advantages to be moderate cost.

However, Gemon cat food is not included in the list of popular foods in Russia. And the reason is not only the inconsistency of consumer reviews. Probably, owners of breeding-valuable individuals prefer to use holistic or super-premium food. Owners of outbred cats are content with cheaper food - Kitty Kat or Whiskas.

Our verdict

So what do we have in total?

  • Cereals are used as the main ingredient, mostly of unknown origin and quality. Cereals are not physiological for cats; they are a cheap source of energy that encourages the animal to approach the bowl more often. After all, an increased content of carbohydrates provokes a condition called “insulin swing” - after consuming carbohydrates, the level of glucose in the blood rises, and then the body produces the hormone insulin, which reduces sugar levels, but at the same time causes a feeling of hunger. The animal again goes to the bowl and so on until insulin resistance develops, i.e. diabetes.
  • Animal products with vague formulations are not of the highest quality.
  • Low-quality oil-fat mixtures.
  • Strange marketing claims in the description and name of the food, which either do not fully correspond to reality or cannot be verified.

As you can see, we cannot recommend this product. However, we can highlight a couple of winners: Kitten and Sterilized food can easily be called the best in the Gemon food series. And if you don't have a healthier alternative, you can easily use these two types of food.

Conclusions about Gemon food

After a detailed study of the assortment and as a result of an analysis of the composition of Gemon feed, the following conclusions can be drawn:

This is a “light” low-protein diet, which, however, explains its low price. Gemon occupies a good place in the ranking of middle-class diets: this food can be fed to dogs, provided that they do not experience health problems.

It is necessary to understand that dogs need sufficient amounts of animal protein, which come from meat or fish, to grow and maintain health. It is possible that a dog raised on Gemon diets will have to be supplemented with protein foods in order for it to develop harmoniously and feel good.

Kitten

Ingredients Gemon Kitten with Chicken and Rice
Food for small predators finally contains animal products first!

  • Chicken comes in first place; the manufacturer explained that 8% of this ingredient is fresh chicken and 30% is dehydrated. Already something. We can clearly see that at least 38% of this food actually contains animal ingredients. Chicken is a good choice for cat food. Of course, if she does not suffer from allergies to chicken meat and other products obtained from this type of poultry.
  • Next come the grains. The good news is that the grains in this food are specified more specifically, these are maize and rice. The bad news is that these grains are still not physiological and are quite cheap, acting as a cheap source of energy.
  • Chicken fat is indicated as one of the sources of fat - compared to other feeds, where specific fats are indicated only as part of the fat mix, it is a good component, but it is not clear what it is preserved with.
  • Hydrolyzed animal proteins are proteins that have been isolated using enzymes and/or acids. On the one hand, they are well digestible and do not cause allergies, on the other hand, it is not known what raw materials they are obtained from, and besides, they undergo deep processing even before being added to the feed.
  • Beet pulp is what remains of beets after the sugar is extracted from them. A good and completely harmless source of fiber.
  • Dehydrated salmon is also a good and fairly high-quality source of animal protein, no complaints. Another product obtained from this noble species of fish is Omega 3-rich salmon oil.
  • Further, as with other feeds, we see additives in the form of yeast, fructooligosaccharides, taurine and yucca schidigera.

The guaranteed analysis did not raise any questions. But the description states that the food has a reduced magnesium content, which helps maintain kidney health. Not only do kittens usually not experience any problems with the kidneys (if they do not have congenital pathologies) and this item is not necessary at all, but the guaranteed analysis does not indicate the magnesium content, that is, we cannot verify the manufacturer’s statement in any way!

Sterilized

Composition of Gemon Sterilized with Turkey
Food for sterilized cats promises us protection of liver function due to its highly digestible formula.

  • In first place is turkey, of which 8% is fresh turkey and 30% is dehydrated. It is interesting that even in the explanations, the manufacturer stubbornly puts fresh turkey above dehydrated turkey, although it is obvious that there is more of the latter in the feed.
  • What follows is a small list of three grain ingredients: maize, corn gluten (here, by the way, we can observe the intentional division of the maize (corn) component into two ingredients) and rice. In the analysis of the previous kitten food, we have already described these ingredients, as well as the subsequent hydrolysates of animal proteins and chicken fat.
  • We have not yet come across the insoluble pea fiber component - in small quantities it has a beneficial effect on the cat’s digestive tract and practically does not cause gas formation, as you might think.
  • Next on the list are dehydrated salmon, salmon oil, taurine, yeast, FOS and yucca, which we have already discussed using other foods as examples.

According to the guaranteed analysis, we can say that this food contains the highest amount of fiber. Just this amount of fiber would not interfere with food for hair removal.

Advantages and disadvantages of Gemon food

Gemon foods, advertised as premium diets, have their advantages and disadvantages.

Among the advantages are:

  • A wide range that takes into account the needs of pets at different stages of growth and development, as well as lifestyle and physical activity.
  • The availability of wet diets, which are of particular value for picky pets, old animals and dogs with poor health.
  • The presence of a vitamin-mineral complex and some useful additives sufficient for middle-class diets.
  • Affordable product price.

Disadvantages of nutrition:

  • Low protein content, insufficient to meet the protein needs of obligate carnivore dogs.
  • High carbohydrate levels.
  • “Opacity” of the composition: there is practically no detail in the ingredient list and it is impossible to understand exactly what raw materials are used in production.
  • The food is potentially dangerous for dogs with allergies and hypersensitivity to food components for the reason stated in the previous paragraph.

Note! Dogs that eat carbohydrate foods are forced to eat more than normal due to the feeling of hunger. Excess plant foods can lead to digestive disorders, obesity and other problems.
