The Extreme Persian is an amazing artificially bred pet. It is distinguished from other representatives of the Persian breed by its even more flattened nose. But such a cute feature does not make pets ugly. On the contrary, they are even cuter, gentle and charming than, for example, the Blue Persian.
The Extreme Persian is an amazing artificially bred pet.
The nose of unusual pets is very high, it is approximately at the same level with the inner corners of the eyes. Of course, such an appearance trait leaves a serious imprint on the habits of animals. Thus, it is quite difficult for representatives of the extreme type of Persians to eat food. Due to the lack of a classic elongated spout, they cannot grab a piece of food or stick their muzzle into a narrow bowl. Therefore, the owner should make sure that the animal has its own comfortable wide cup. Problems also arise when drinking. Usually the pet’s entire face becomes wet, because in order to reach the water with their tongue, they have to completely plunge into the bowl.

Due to the structural features of the animals' faces, many veterinarians were against breeding them. Experts assured that such a structure is very harmful to the health of pets. However, extreme cats still received official recognition, after which breeders began to actively breed them. The first representatives of the species were born in 1920 in the USA.
Physical characteristics of animals
Persian extreme sports enthusiasts have a specific appearance. They are distinguished by:
- short pointed ears;
- very high nose;
- short, squat body;
- small round head.

With their unusual flat muzzle, pets are very reminiscent of Pekingese dogs. Due to their structural features, it seems that extreme cats have very bulging eyes. A short, flattened nose seems to be pressed between them.
Like the Persian classic cats, representatives of this species have long, silky hair. However, they do not differ in the variety of colors. In nature, only beige and red Persian cats of extreme breed are found. Despite the long efforts of breeders, it was not possible to obtain unusual animals of black or white shade.
History of the origin of the breed
Extreme sports cannot boast of a long and interesting history of origin. The first extreme Persians appeared in the 30s of the 20th century. Breeders began to carry out work aimed at strengthening the lines of the standard Persian breed. To do this, they crossed Persians with more massive individuals.
At first they were disappointed, since the first extreme sportsmen, born as a result of numerous attempts, did not live up to their expectations. They were squat, compact kittens with large, round, widely spaced eyes. It seemed impossible to improve the old type in the first generation.
However, experienced breeders did not give up and continued their work: in addition to a flattened short nose, extreme sportsmen needed to lower the ears, make the eyes large and expressive. It was quite difficult to obtain ideal representatives of the breed, so only high-quality animals of the best type were selected for breeding.
As a result of the efforts of the breeders, extreme sports began to produce very decent livestock, which convinced breeders that the breed had a right to exist.
With their exotic appearance, snub-nosed babies have won the hearts of cat lovers. Since then, the breed has begun to gain popularity in America, but in European countries, extreme cats are not yet so in demand, this is due to numerous anomalies characteristic of the subtype.

What character do unusual pets have?
Despite the name, representatives of the breed are not fans of extreme pastimes. They are generally quite calm, even apathetic. Persian red and white cats with high noses love to spend their leisure time in silence on the sofa. They are also big fans of sleep.
Representatives of the Persian breed treat their owners with great love and hope that they will be reciprocated. As a rule, gentle animals become especially strongly attached to one family member. But this does not mean at all that the rest of the household will be deprived of affection and attention. Cats are quite loyal towards other pets. But they still prefer to be the only four-legged residents of the apartment.
The extreme cat depends on people more than the classic white Persian cat. Gentle pets have a great need for constant attention and care. If you don't take good care of your pet, it can become depressed. Extreme Persians are exclusively domestic animals. They are distinguished by weak immunity and a complete lack of street life skills. Even an ordinary walk can pose a mortal danger for pampered pets.
Cheerful and affectionate exotic cat
Exotic shorthair cats are descendants of the Persian breed. Exotics were bred artificially as a result of crossing Persian and American shorthair cats.
In the 60s of the last century, breeding scientists set themselves the task of improving the American Shorthair cat breed, in particular, making the color palette more diverse. To do this, breeders conducted a series of experiments on crossing American women with Persians. It was assumed that the result of the experiment would be the emergence of a new species of American Shorthair with green eyes and brightly colored fur.
Stocky cats of the Persian breed were chosen to strengthen the light frame of American women. However, the offspring that emerged from such an unusual union shocked the breeders: all of them were absolutely charming, but snub-nosed, plump and short-fingered, that is, in appearance they resembled their Persian father rather than their American mother.
The offspring absorbed all the characteristics of their Persian ancestors, including numerous health problems, with the exception of one characteristic - long hair.
Nevertheless, felinologists liked the breed, and in 1966, the famous US breeder Jane Martin submitted a proposal to the World Cat Association (CFA) for its registration. At first, the new breed was supposed to be called “sterling” (translated from English as “silver”), citing the coat color of the Persian who participated in the mating, but the general decision was this: to register it as an exotic shorthair.
The exotic cat breed was rapidly gaining popularity and already in 1999 it became fourth in the list of the most popular in the world, and a little later, in 2012, it was awarded the honor of being a silver medalist in this ranking. The shorthair gene is considered to be quite established, so today all breeding work on exotics is prohibited.
How to prepare for the arrival of a kitten in the house?
Despite the fact that animals are quite calm, you need to carefully prepare for their appearance in the apartment. Necessary:
- secure windows;
- remove valuable, dangerous and fragile items;
- secure the wires at a sufficient height;
- Move indoor plants from the floor to a higher ground.
Immediately you need to buy bowls of appropriate sizes, a carrier and a tray. The type of filler should be clarified with the breeder; this will help the pet quickly adapt to the fact that it can only relieve itself in a designated place. It is also advisable to immediately prepare a first aid kit with first aid medications. The list of medications can be obtained from the breeder or veterinarian.
You should also take care of toys in advance. They will help keep your pet engaged and avoid obesity, boredom and destructive behavior. For the first time, 2-3 toys will be enough for a Persian cat. After some time they will need to be updated. It should be taken into account that the playfulness of a pet decreases with age, so new toys should be more interesting and attractive.
It is imperative to equip your pet with a soft and cozy sleeping place. You should also take care of purchasing a scratching post. The ideal option is a columnar model with a house and stripes. If you do not purchase such a device for your pet, he can use the owner’s furniture as a scratching post.
Cost of an extreme oriental kitten
The cost of an extreme type Oriental is determined by the exhibition category and coat color.
Since kittens in the breeding category are rare and have an ideal pedigree, they cost accordingly - from 100 thousand rubles. An Oriental companion kitten, not intended for breeding, will cost about 50 thousand.
The cheapest are kittens with minor defects that do not affect the quality of life. They will not participate in exhibitions, are not allowed to breed, but they become no less wonderful companions and family members, their cost is about 30 thousand rubles.
What does the Persian extreme eater eat?
The Persian cat eats both purchased food and natural products. In any case, nutrition should be correct and balanced. If you purchase food in a store, it is better to give preference to premium dry or wet food. They allow you to satisfy the animal’s daily need for vitamins and microelements.
Owners who prefer natural products should take care of creating the right diet. It is necessary to exclude from the menu of extreme sports:
- spicy, sweet and salty foods;
- foods with high fat content;
- tubular bones;
- potato.
If you give your pet offal and meat, they must be well boiled. Cats of this breed have a tendency to overeat, so it is recommended to feed them strictly according to the schedule. Adult Persians should have no more than 3 meals a day, kittens should have no more than 5. Uneaten food should be removed so that the Persian cat does not feast on it at the wrong time.
Standard and Description
Exotic, Persian, extreme - representatives of these breeds are very similar in appearance, but there are also differences. Persians and exotics differ in the length of their fur; extreme dogs have noses strongly pressed between their cheeks. And the exotic is a stocky, squat cat with a large head and rounded soft lines of the body. Distinctive characteristics are a charming childish sweet expression, a snub nose, huge round eyes and thick short hair.
Representatives of this breed are often called Persians for the lazy, as they are visually similar to their Persian relatives, with the only difference being that their magnificent coat, soft and dense, making them look like adorable teddy bears, requires much less care.
To understand what a short-haired exotic cat is, just look at the photograph of the Japanese cat Snoopy, whose touching face has won the hearts of cat lovers all over the world.
Animals cannot boast of large sizes, an adult exotic cat weighs no more than 7 kilograms, cats of the exotic shorthair breed weigh less.
American breed standard:
- The head is round, medium in size,
- The muzzle is flattened.
- The cheeks are thick and drooping.
- The eyes are large, round, expressive.
- The nose is snub.
- The ears are small, slightly drooping down.
- The body is medium-sized, resembling a square.
- The bones are strong.
- The limbs are short, strong, the hind and front legs are of equal length.
- The tail is small.
- The coat is short (no more than 2 cm in length), close to the body, soft, and feels like plush to the touch. There is a thick undercoat.
As for color, the color palette of the coat is varied: both white and black exotic cats are quite common. They also inherited from the Persians various color combinations of wool - 2-3 shades with color spots of different sizes. The standard includes the most popular colors. They are:
- Red tabby. A reddish tint, pronounced on the back and less intense on the belly.
- Marble. The color can be of different shades (gray, red, black), the pattern has marble lines.
- Black. Without any admixture of any other shades.
- Blue - with a shade of gray.
- Tortoiseshell is a combination of several shades.
- White - pure, snow-white.
- Red with a hint of cream (beige).
An exotic cat reaches full development by two years. How long do exotics live? Their average life expectancy is from 12 to 15 years. With good care it can live longer.
How to care for your pets' luxurious fur?
The fur of extreme dogs requires careful care. If you don't take proper care of it, fine hairs can turn gray and become matted. In particularly advanced cases, the mats have to be cut off. To prevent this, you need to brush the fur several times a week. Each owner determines the exact frequency of the procedure independently, taking into account the individual characteristics of the pet.
To comb your pets, you need a sparse comb and a massage brush, preferably with safe teeth and an antistatic coating. It is better not to use a slicker, since the undercoat of extreme dogs is easily pulled out, but is difficult to restore. For the same reason, it is not recommended to comb the bushy tail of beautiful pets unless absolutely necessary.
After the Persian cat has been groomed, it is recommended to treat the fur with a special conditioner. You can use a protein spray periodically.
What other care do animals need?
Like the classics, extreme sportsmen sometimes have problems with their teeth. They are dangerous because they can cause gastrointestinal diseases. To prevent this, you need to carefully monitor your pet’s oral cavity. It is recommended to use a special paste for animals to brush your teeth. This procedure must be carried out at least once a month. If you cannot brush your teeth on your own, you can contact a veterinarian or a cat beauty salon.
A mandatory stage of care is ear cleaning. It is also carried out once a month. To perform the procedure, special preparations are used that are sold in any pet store. You can use Vaseline or vegetable oil. The cotton swab that will be used to clean the ears must be moistened in liquid and squeezed out well. The product should not drain. Holding the ear by the tip, the owner must carefully remove dirt and plaque from the visible part of the passage. If deep cleaning is necessary, then it is better to use another product, which is called: drops for deep cleaning of the ears.
Due to the structural features, every cat of extreme type always has discharge in the tear ducts. If they do not form, you need to show your pet to a veterinarian. The discharge must be removed daily. You can use a damp, lint-free cloth for this. If the drainage from the eyes is excessive, tetracycline ophthalmic ointment can be used. If there is no expected result, it is recommended to consult a doctor.
Like the classic Persian, the extreme representative of the species needs regular nail trimming. If this is not done, the animal may injure itself or injure its owners. Nail clippers are used to shorten claws. They must be very sharp. Otherwise, the claws will break, causing pain to the animal. Only the tip of the nail is cut off, approximately 1-2 mm. If you remove more, bleeding may occur. In this case, you need to have a piece of cotton wool and a disinfectant on hand.
Charming and beautiful Extreme Persians make wonderful pets. They are ideal even for families with children. If you take proper care of your pet and give it due attention, then the red Persian cat (or white pet) will be very grateful and will definitely reciprocate. It is difficult to find a more devoted and faithful friend than a Persian cat.
