Cat's sleep: how a pet's sleeping place affects the owner's life according to signs

To keep warm, most cats curl up into a ball and cover their face with their paws, but in addition to this popular pose, there are others. Of particular interest is the paws-up position, when the pet's belly is open for everyone to see.

This position makes the animal more vulnerable, and the owners are sincerely perplexed why some cats like to lie down and even sleep on their backs. In addition to complete trust in the owner, there are other reasons, including pathological ones.

If the cat sleeps at the owner's feet

If your pet is nestled at your feet, it may mean that he is feeling tired legs or pain in the muscles and joints acquired during a long day of work. The pet feels that the owner is feeling unwell and strives to help him and improve his well-being. According to signs, cats lie at the feet of the owner in order to draw off the negative energy accumulated during the day and give out positive energy.

If you notice that your cat often sleeps at your feet, then pay close attention to your health. This may indicate serious problems with it, such as arthritis and other joint diseases.

If the cat sleeps near your head

If a cat has chosen the owner’s pillow, this can be explained by the fact that the head is the warmest part of the human body; strong heat transfer passes through it. There are different opinions on this matter. Veterinarians believe that in this way the pet establishes a dominant position over its owner. Animal lovers believe that this is how a cat shows its love for its owner. According to one belief, pets drive away bad thoughts and attract good dreams if they settle near a person’s head. In any case, the peaceful purring of a cat helps you relax and fall asleep quickly.

Arrange a sleeping place for your cat and get him used to it

How to arrange a new sleeping place?

How to stop a cat from sleeping in bed? First of all, she needs to be provided with a worthy alternative - her own sleeping place . In order for your pet to like it, you should carefully study her habits.

Take a closer look: where exactly does the cat prefer to rest ? Some mustachioed animals love secluded places inaccessible to humans. Others prefer to relax at higher elevations. Still others may prefer closed spaces like boxes or drawers. And still others may like a warm window sill with a window on the sunny side.

Many cats love to sleep in the sun

Arrange the sleeping area depending on your pet's habits and make sure that it meets cat standards:

  • The place should be warm ;
  • The place should be conducive to relaxation. Give preference to quiet corners of the house where the noise of the washing machine, refrigerator or dishwasher is not heard;
  • The place should be located far enough from the cat litter box ;
  • The place should be soft and cozy . Lay down a soft blanket, clothes, or arrange a sleeping place using a store-bought bed or house.

How to choose a cat bed?

Pay attention to the position in which the kitty most often sleeps. If she likes to stretch out while sleeping, the bed should be spacious and the sides should be located at a distance. If your pet sleeps in a curl, round and slightly less spacious beds are suitable.

You can choose a self-heating bed - cats love these very much. One of them could be a great alternative to a warm bed for your kitty too.

a bed with a house-shaped roof is best . If your pet prefers open spaces, it is not necessary.

How to accustom a cat to a new place?

At first, the kitty may not show interest in the new place. Then a few tricks will help you:

  • Place a T-shirt or any other clothing with your scent . A pillow is also an option.
  • Spray the area with catnip-scented spray . It will help your pet relax and feel safe.
  • Hide a treat under your pillow or blanket . It will help create positive associations with the new place.
  • Did the cat jump on your bed? Move him to your sleeping place . Be patient, and sooner or later you will achieve cat obedience.
  • If the cat voluntarily decides to visit a new sleeping place, praise him or give him a treat .

If the cat sleeps on its stomach

This may mean that this is your pet's way of expressing his love to you. If he does this often, then this may indicate that not everything is in order in your abdominal area, because animals have the ability to sense the owner’s illnesses. There is also one ancient sign that women have cats’ bellies during their pregnancy. In ancient times, in order to check whether a woman was pregnant or not. The cat was placed on its stomach, and if the animal remained there and fell asleep, it was believed that the woman was expecting a child. And now many people think that cats seem to sense the nascent life and strive to warm the child in the womb.

When to worry

Dandruff in a cat: on the back, at the tail, causes and treatment

Sometimes sleeping on its back causes the animal to spread its legs wide. Sometimes this is a sign of a serious pathology. A visit to the veterinarian and diagnostic testing are recommended for pets with the following symptoms:

  • unreasonable anxiety, increased irritability;
  • searching for secluded places or demonstratively drawing attention to one’s own person;
  • frequent and loud meowing in an unusual tone;
  • refusal to eat or independently reducing portions to minimum sizes;
  • frequent trips to the toilet to empty the bowels or bladder;
  • prolonged absence of urination or bowel movements;
  • elevated temperatures.

Frequent trips to the toilet are the first sign that something is wrong with the animal.
Apathy and indifference to external stimuli are dangerous signs that indicate the active activity of pathogenic microflora in the body of cats. In some cases, the problem is associated with helminths and intoxication of the body from their waste products.

Possible diseases

There are a number of pathologies that lead to unusual postures in animals. Common diseases:

  • poor functioning of the digestive tract - allergic reactions to cheap food, poisoning with stale food, foreign objects entering the gastrointestinal tract, intestinal parasites can cause pain in the gastrointestinal tract. Diseases may be accompanied by attacks of vomiting and diarrhea;
  • diseases of the genitourinary tract. Inflammatory processes lead to problems with the free release of the bladder, the appearance of particles of blood, pus, and sand in the urine. The cat is lethargic, when urinating he has a forced, tense posture, he often twitches his hind legs, trying to facilitate the process;
  • Heart diseases appear when affected by a viral or fungal infection, poisoning with salts of heavy metals, in stressful situations, and with anemia of various origins. The problem can be identified by heavy breathing with whistling, severe shortness of breath with minimal physical exertion, a drop in temperature, and pallor of the visible mucous membranes. There is no cough due to cardiac pathologies;
  • neoplasms are tumors in internal organs and mammary glands, which can be of malignant or benign origin. Their gradual growth interferes with the full functioning of the digestive tract and forces cats to take a forced position on their back. Animals quickly lose weight, become apathetic, refuse to contact people, an enlarged formation on the mammary glands forces the pet to spread its paws wide, as it interferes with normal walking.

If the above signs appear, there is no need to self-medicate and diagnose your sick pet. Attempts to palpate the abdomen will lead to severe aggression with scratching and biting. Diagnostics in a veterinary clinic will help to recognize the ongoing pathological process and find the best method of therapy.

If the cat sleeps on the table

If a cat chooses such a place to sleep, then the first thought that arises in its owner is that it chooses this place because of the smell of food. But the reason may be that a large amount of negative energy accumulates in this area. There is a superstition that if a cat sleeps on the table, it portends illness or even death for someone in the household. There is no need to be afraid of omens, because cats always ward off trouble from their owner, and do not bring trouble upon him.

Pets have a beneficial effect on a person’s well-being and neutralize negative energy in the home. Cats, through their behavior, can tell a lot about their owner’s health and the energy in his home. Therefore, if you notice that your furry is behaving unusually, take a closer look at these “signals.”

Help me figure out the diagnosis

Good afternoon On February 4, our beloved cat died, we are worried about it with the whole family, especially our daughter. All these days I have been tormented by the question of how the disease was not noticed in time and whether it was possible to do something to save it. The symptoms were as follows: on the evening of January 29, they noticed that the cat was breathing heavily and seemed to cough a couple of times, the daughter suggested that the cat had choked on food, and the husband said that there was nothing wrong with that, saying that cats are tenacious and she will get better on her own if something happens - that's not true. The next day, the cat began to breathe worse, mostly lay down, ate once, and drank water. I called the veterinarian, since it was a day off, he offered to come for an appointment on Monday, but neither I nor my husband could, as we were busy at work (and, for which I now blame myself very much, did not feel the seriousness of the situation) . The cat continued to breathe heavily, she was already breathing “from her belly.” I realized that she was very ill and something urgently needed to be done. And on February 2, I asked to leave work and brought the cat to the veterinarian. Yes, I forgot to tell you at the beginning that we have two cats, one is 9, the other is 12 years old (the youngest cat died). Both are sterilized. We live in an apartment building on the 9th floor. And my husband let the cats out onto the balcony every day so that they could breathe fresh air and harden themselves. They were on the balcony and sat on the shelf of an old kitchen cabinet for 4 hours. I think that our youngest cat caught a cold one of these days, the balcony is not glazed, the wind is blowing and it’s frosty.

On the evening of February 2, after visiting the doctor, they gave an injection of aloe and tried to give coltsfoot tincture from a syringe to drink, little by little, but the cat began to struggle and went to lie on the piano. At the same time, she breathed through her mouth and stuck out her tongue. The next morning, I found her lying on the bathroom floor on the cold tiles, breathing heavily from her stomach. And for the remaining 2 days of her life, the cat lay on the floor, several times hiding in the bathroom under the bathtub itself. Explain why she lay down on a cold bed if her lungs hurt? On the morning of February 3, the cat ate, and then refused water and food, breathing through her mouth. It was so painful to look at the torment of our animal, because the animal that lives next to us becomes a member of the family, and we are responsible for it. I think everyone who has pets will agree with this. I kept thinking how to help the cat, why didn’t the doctor prescribe any medications. After all, people are somehow saved in such cases. I decided to call my brother (he lives in another city and works as a chief surgeon) and explained the situation. My brother advised me to buy the antibiotic Ceftriaxone-Darinitsa. I calculated the dose myself. They did everything as he said. On February 4, at about 8:00 pm, my husband gave an antibiotic injection, the cat lay on the floor all the time and breathed through her mouth, sticking out her tongue. At about 11:30 p.m., she jumped up on her front legs, screamed strangely, as if she was choking on something, and a minute later this sound was repeated. Then she breathed frequently for about a minute and died, falling onto her right side and stretching out her front legs. We cried all night, our daughter suffers the most. The cat was her favorite. My daughter reproaches me for why they gave me the injection, saying that the cat could have recovered on its own. This is true? Or did we kill her with this injection? Yes, I forgot to say that a little blood flowed out of the cat’s mouth after death.

After the incident I talked to my brother. He suggested that, most likely, the cat had pulmonary edema. She would have died anyway; the injection was not to blame. My brother also said that in such cases people are put on a ventilator, but this is not the case for animals. This is true? Do we really not provide such services in Belarus, especially since I live in Vitebsk and we have a famous veterinary academy here (I went there for help when I went to the doctor). But he didn’t prescribe any x-rays or tests.

I decided to look on the Internet for information about cat diseases (so I came to your site via a link). As a result of searching on Russian sites, I saw that the animals are given oxygen, fluid is sucked out of the lungs, IVs are placed, etc. And we have? Was there really nothing more that could be done?

pancakes for half a liter of milk with holes

Today I decided to call the veterinarian. She told him that the cat had died and asked what he thought happened to her. He answered me that most likely she had contracted a virus, as a result of which she developed pneumonia and even croupous (is it possible to find out without a picture?), there was almost nothing left of her lungs (less than a centimeter, he probably said so; what there was not even almost shallow breathing). Therefore, it was pointless to treat with anything; she would have died anyway.

Sorry for taking up a lot of your time. Maybe you can tell me what our cat was sick with and whether it was possible to save her with some kind of medicine, or if we took her to the appointment on Monday, January 31, and not February 2, as it happened. Thank you in advance. Irina. Vitebsk

Thank you very much again for your answer and words of support. The daughter remembers the cat every day and says that it was one of her best friends.
