A purebred cat without documents: what to do and where to run

Why do they issue documents for animals?

Having documents for a cat is a prerequisite for participation in exhibition events. If a pet is bought for the soul and does not plan to receive honorary titles, then this is not a reason to refuse official registration. A basic set of documentation is necessary not only for exhibitions, but also for:

  1. Border crossing

    . Moving to another country or another city within the country will be impossible without providing the required papers for a pet.

  2. Solutions to controversial issues

    that arise when a pet is kidnapped or lost. Trying to prove ownership in court with words alone is a lost cause.

  3. Proof of breeding value

    . The desire to breed a breed can come spontaneously. If everything is prepared in advance, you won’t have to look for where to buy documents for a cat. You will also have to deal with mandatory paperwork after the birth of kittens.

Before purchasing, familiarize yourself with what all the necessary papers look like. This will eliminate the subsequent search for information on how to prepare documents for a kitten yourself.

Veterinary passport for a cat

The word “passport” is immediately associated with an identity document. However, in fact, a veterinary passport is rather a medical card for a pet, which contains all the necessary information about the owner and the animal itself: information on vaccinations, microchipping (indicating the electronic chip number), preventive measures (deworming, flea and tick treatments ) and reproductions.

A passport is issued for all animals, regardless of type, origin, age and breed

What does the document look like?

There is no regulated form for issuing a veterinary passport for a cat. There are several common patterns. The covers of the booklet differ, and the form itself may look different (the columns can be vertical or horizontal).

What set of documents does the breeder issue?

Documents for a cat are divided into 2 groups: mandatory and secondary. Mandatory ones include:

  • veterinary, recording the number of vaccinations and other medical procedures performed;
  • tribal, confirming belonging to a certain breed;
  • a purchase and sale agreement necessary to transfer ownership.

The secondary or additional group includes certificates, diplomas and certificates. Their receipt is not mandatory and is issued at the request of the future owner.

Veterinary passport

Selling an animal without a veterinary passport is a reason for serious consideration. The only legitimate explanation for this situation is the small age of the animal, less than 3 months. In this case, you don’t have to issue a veterinary passport, but then the question arises about the health of the future pet. Such an early separation from the mother is fraught with increased vulnerability to infections.

No later than 3 months, the kitten receives its first vaccination. All information about the vaccine and the doctor who administered the injection is recorded in the veterinary passport. In its content, it resembles a human medical record. It contains information about:

  • chipping;
  • antiparasitic treatment;
  • administered vaccines;
  • surgical interventions and studies performed to make a diagnosis.

The personal data of the pet (date of birth, gender, nickname), including information about reproductive function, and the owner (full name, residential address) are taken into account separately. All records are secured with the personal seal of the veterinarian and the veterinary clinic. If there are no stamps, the passport is considered invalid.

When visiting other countries, it is recommended to obtain an international veterinary license. document. All data in it is duplicated in two languages: English or German. With such a passport you can travel not only within the country, but also abroad. If you arrange it in advance, you will not have to pay twice.

Before traveling abroad, contact your state animal disease control agency to understand how to obtain paperwork for your cat. In addition to the passport, you will have to issue a special certificate in the form, valid for 5 days after its receipt.

Please note that the rules for transporting animals are constantly changing within the country, and can also vary greatly in different countries. You can find out more information about necessary vaccinations, examinations and certificates by calling the Federal Veterinary Control Service.

Pedigree, aka metric

The first official document confirming the kitten’s identity is a metric. It contains the animal's date of birth, brief information about the breed and parents. Responsibility for registration of the metric lies with the club where the kitten’s mother is registered. Data collection is carried out 1.5 months after the birth of the baby. Based on the metric, a pedigree is obtained, so these papers are compared with a birth certificate and passport.

Pedigree documents issued for a Scottish cat will confirm its real belonging to the breed. This will eliminate deception with the British Fold, because such a breed does not exist in nature. And this is the most striking example among many similar ones.

Sample of a cat certificate, its type depends on the issuing organization and region of residence

Another important point is the ability to participate in any exhibitions, including international ones. Over time, many owners can change their spontaneous decision to abandon their show career. If the pedigree is drawn up as a backup option in advance, then problems with its registration at too late an age will not arise.

Contract of sale

The purchase and sale agreement specifies the breed, color, age and cost of the future pet. After receiving it, ownership of the kitten is transferred to the new owner. Assigning a future pet to your name is a reliable argument when resolving controversial situations in court (theft, division of property during divorce).

In addition to the basic data, it is permissible to enter additional information: the timing of sterilization, restrictions on the selection of partners for mating. The seller has the right to prescribe conditions for a potential litter. Basic information about the seller, buyer and the club where the kitten’s mother is registered is also indicated.

Additional papers

Additional documentation includes certificates, diplomas and a certificate from a veterinarian. They are issued on the basis of mandatory cat papers.

Registration certificate

is drawn up on the basis of metrics. It contains the registration number of the pet and indicates ownership. The certificate makes it possible to register litters, obtain pedigrees and titles. If its registration occurred before the sale of the animal, the seller is obliged to make a transfer. In this case, ownership will pass to the new owner.

In the diploma

assign the final grade to the furry contestants who performed at the exhibition. It specifies the expert assessment, title, nomination and awarded place.

Veterinary certificate

necessary for participation in exhibitions and trips abroad. It is issued after confirmation:

  • pet health;
  • undergoing mandatory vaccinations and veterinary and sanitary treatments;
  • carrying out the necessary laboratory diagnostic studies.

An animal older than 3 months must be vaccinated against rabies and examined for parasites and ringworm. All vaccinations are done no later than a month before the certificate is issued. They check for parasites no later than 2 months in advance, and for lichen – immediately before registration.

When is a veterinary passport needed?

In addition to the ability to monitor the health status of your pet, it is required when moving within the country or traveling to foreign countries. Those who plan to participate in various exhibitions and breed kittens from a pet with a pedigree cannot do without this document. In the latter case, timely entry of the necessary information into the passport and a photo of the cat in it is especially important, since in the future the data contained in it will be necessary for other documentation, such as a breed certificate.

A veterinary passport can be very helpful in unforeseen situations. In particular, a rabies vaccination stamp will protect you from unnecessary proceedings if your cat bites someone while playing or just on the street.

How much does it cost to get a passport for a cat?

When kittens reach the age of 2–3 months, it is necessary to receive the first vaccination. As a rule, your doctor gives your baby a document. Veterinary documents can be found directly in veterinary clinics, online stores or pet salons (100–150 ₽).

The cost of the booklet form is often included in the price of the vaccination itself.

Both small kittens and adult cats can get a veterinary passport. After you buy a cat, the first stamp in the passport must be made within a month.

Regular veterinary passport

It will be required when moving around the country in which the owner lives. All rabies vaccinations must be noted here. In addition to the veterinary passport, some airports require a special certificate in Form No. 1. It is advisable to complete it immediately before the trip, since form number one is valid for only 5 days.

International format document

As a rule, such a veterinary passport costs more. It is necessary in order to travel abroad with your pet. Without it, it is not possible to obtain all the necessary certificates for the removal of the cat. All data in the international veterinary passport is indicated in Russian and English.

What to do if your veterinary passport is lost

If your veterinary passport is lost or damaged, you need to urgently contact the veterinary clinic where the previous document was issued. But often the cat will have to undergo a re-examination and get the vaccine again. This will not harm her health, on the contrary, it will improve it.

For your information! If the cat has been microchipped, then restoring the information will be even easier and faster. A special device reads the chip data, and the veterinarian will receive all the necessary information about the animal’s health.

To travel abroad with your pet you need to collect a lot of documents

An “identity card” for a pet cat is an important document that is needed to visit a veterinarian and go on holiday with an animal abroad. In addition, if the pet is microchipped, thanks to the document it will be easier to find it and prove rights to it.

What actions should you take to formalize your pedigree when you have the metric in hand?

There are several ways to legally register a pedigree for a cat. The easiest way is to make documents about the breed for a pet purchased with a birth certificate and a photocopy of the pedigree of its ancestors.

If the original birth certificate, received from an official institution and issued in accordance with international standards, is already in the hands of the new kitten owners, the situation is greatly simplified. You can make a pedigree using it within one year. Time is counted from the moment the animal is born. After the expiration of the period, it is also possible to obtain a document certifying the breed, but this procedure becomes more complicated.

The animal's birth certificate indicates:

  • registration number, index;
  • information about the breeder;
  • names and colors of the cat’s parents, their dates of birth;
  • information about several generations of ancestors;
  • pet's name, date of birth, gender and color.

It contains data - the name and location of the club where the metric was issued. The seal and signature of the manager must also be present. To register a pedigree using a club document confirming the breed of the animal, you should contact the above institution.

So, if a kitten is purchased with the PCA system metric, to start registering the pedigree, you will need to go through the following steps:

  • Find out the club's opening hours and make an appointment;
  • provide metrics (original document with all its components);
  • pay the full amount for the service of obtaining a pedigree;
  • pay the penalty if there is a delay.

The pedigree registration process takes from two to four weeks. When it is necessary to make a document urgently, for example, in a day, payment is charged at a double rate.

If the organization involved in issuing pedigrees is located in another locality or state, you can agree on the execution of the document through the post office or ask the club to send photocopies of the pedigrees of the cat's purebred parents.

The first option involves the following steps:

  • You need to deposit money into the institution’s bank account for registration of the pedigree and pay a fine if you miss the deadline. In addition, the cost of postal services is paid.
  • The original metric should be sent to the legal address of the organization responsible for registration. All fields of the document must be completed. A photocopy of the payment receipt is also sent by registered mail. A scan of the original metric, a photocopy of the receipt indicating that the person has paid, and the tracking number for sending the registered letter are sent to the appropriate .
