It's okay to eat cat meat. Provided that:
- The cat is not listed as a protected or endangered species.
- The cat was purchased legally and raised humanely.
- The cat was killed and butchered humanely and without suffering.
- The cat is not listed as prohibited for consumption in the country where you live.
If you satisfy all four conditions, then it is perfectly acceptable to eat meat from any animal, such as cats, dogs, horses, monkeys.

I think there is nothing wrong with eating cats.
Eating pets is more of a cultural taboo. Many people are very attached to their pets and attribute to them traits that may not be inherent to these animals (anthropomorphism).
Most countries in the world also have laws against eating cats or dogs.
But in situations where a person is at risk of starvation or there is no other source of meat protein available, people will eat whatever they want.

There's not much meat on a cat. Butchering a cat for such a small amount of cat meat is quite a difficult thing.
Besides, people love their pets, and although you may catch and eat a few from your area, if you keep this up, you will get caught sooner or later too.

Why raw meat can be dangerous

It is better not to buy products in dubious places where the quality of the goods is not controlled.
How do they eat cats in Russia?
This issue is complicated; no one keeps statistics on cat eating.
But here is a story from personal practice. I live in a private house, I had two cats - Fuhrer, Muller and the cat Bullet.
And then in the spring, when they wanted to take a walk, they began to disappear one after another. The last one to crawl home was Bullet, her legs broken by a trap. They performed an operation on her, but it was not possible to save her; the infection continued.
