The pack has an image of food pellets. They are shaped like three-pointed “stars”. The caption to the photo states that they should stimulate chewing of food.

Interestingly, in Russian, in the caption to the composition and analysis, Josera Léger Adult Cat Light food is indicated as suitable for sterilized adult cats and male cats. However, we did not find this data in other languages ​​- it simply says that the diet is intended for cats with reduced energy needs. Most likely, Russian distributors logically connected castration and excess weight in many cats. We don’t see any particular contradictions in this, but still, excess body weight occurs more often not so much because of this operation, but because of overfeeding, so we paid attention not to the inaccuracy of the translation.

On the front side of the Josera Léger diet package it is indicated that this product has a reduced energy value. We decided to compare the energy value and fat content with other Josera cat foods and found some oddities.

In German and English the energy value is not indicated at all. It appeared on the Russian label and is 379.6 kcal per 100 g of feed. Moreover, the fat content in this product is only 10%.

Other diets of the same brand for adult cats have fat contents of 15%, 18% and even 20%. But the calorie content is not too different - for example, the same 379 kcal per 100 g of feed is indicated in a diet containing 15% fat, but in a feed containing 20% ​​fat, the calorie content somehow is only 414 kcal per 100 g of feed. To determine what this food is made of, we will analyze in detail the first 5 ingredients of the diet. Let's start with the first component - it is immediately clear that it is completely incorrectly translated into Russian. This is an isolated dried protein from poultry - Poultry Protein (dried), and for some reason on the package it was called “duck and turkey meal”. Firstly, they added the word “meat”, and secondly, they boldly indicated two specific types of poultry, although this data was not in the original.

Second on the list is corn. In addition to it, we also found in the composition a protein isolated from corn - corn gluten (No. 8) - there is a split method of corn derivatives. If only one corn option were added to the diet, it would clearly move to the No. 1 spot on the list, displacing the source of animal protein.

In 3rd place is another component incorrectly translated into Russian. It is called "rendered beef tallow" when in fact it is a waste product from the production of fat, so-called meat renderings from unknown species of animals - Greaves, and there is no indication of beef in English. This component is, rather, a source of animal protein of not very high quality, rather than fat.

Number 4 on the list belongs to another cereal - rice. The fifth in the composition is coarse fiber with the vague name “cellulose”. Judging by the order of ingredients, there is more of it in Josera Léger Adult Cat Light than the next more valuable sugar beet pulp. Cellulose has no nutritional value, it is a filler that is often added to diets specifically for overweight pets: it is believed that it expands and fills the stomach so that the cat or dog does not feel hungry longer and feels the illusion of fullness.

Confusion with additional components

Poultry Protein (hydrolysed) was added to the diet as a flavoring component, but it was again inaccurately translated into Russian as “hydrolyzed chicken protein.” The same story applies to dried poultry liver - for some reason it is characterized as turkey liver, although the name of the component Poultry Liver, dried does not in any way indicate this.

The source of fat here is Poultry Fat, that is, poultry fat, but again we see an incorrect translation: for some unclear reason it was called “duck fat” on the Russian label.

In the list of additives, we found this one: “Pantothenic acid (vitamin B3).” In fact, pantothenic acid is vitamin B5, we corrected this in the feed card. Another interesting thing is that on the English label the ingredients from “Vitamin B1” to “Biotin” are completely absent. Data about them is available only in Russian and German. We present them here in the description text for reference, but in the food card we left only what is actually indicated in English on the bag.

Here is a list of these additional components: Vitamin B1 - 15 mg/kg, Vitamin B2 - 20 mg/kg, Vitamin B6 - 20 mg/kg, Vitamin B12 - 100 mcg/kg, Nicotinic acid (vitamin PP) - 90 mg/kg, Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) - 50 mg/kg, Vitamin B9 (folic acid) - 5 mg/kg, Vitamin H (biotin) - 1000 mcg/kg.

For some reason, component No. 11 in Russian is called “potassium chloride,” but instead of it, the word “minerals” is indicated in both Russian and German. We considered it necessary to correct the list of ingredients, because there are many mineral supplements here, and they are different. For example, copper and zinc are presented in the form of highly absorbable compounds - chelates.

The food also contains taurine and L-carnitine, a component that helps convert fatty acids into energy, which can often be found in diets for overweight pets. From the label in English it is clearly clear that taurine was added separately, which is natural with such a lean composition of meat - after all, each product for cats must be balanced in terms of the content of this important amino acid.

It is known that the product is preserved with natural extracts rich in tocopherol. At the same time, it is not clear where the word “organic” came from when translating its name into Russian - after all, nothing is said about this in English: Antioxidants (tocopherol extracts of natural origin).

Why is this food better than others?

A big plus of Djoser food is the absence of wheat.
All super premium foods are generally similar in their composition and quality of the products used. However, each brand has its own advantages over others.

One of the significant advantages of the German Josera food is the absence of wheat in all diets. It has long been proven that wheat is one of the most allergenic foods, and currently many four-legged pets suffer from the problem of intolerance to this component.

For example, the American brand Eukanuba and the Czech brand Fitmin did not refuse to add wheat to the feed recipe.

Another advantage of Josera food is the completeness of the vitamin complex. It contains not only useful vitamins A, D3 and E, but also a whole list of B vitamins (B1, B2, B6, B12, B3, B5, B9, biotin).

Let's talk about the disadvantages of this food. As analysis of the composition showed, Josera Léger Adult Cat Light food does not contain full-fledged meat at all - neither fresh, nor raw, nor dehydrated. We think this is not a good indicator. The product contains a significant amount of grain. We also found here a split of corn derivatives, which includes a dedicated source of plant protein - corn gluten, a cheap protein ingredient.

Josera Léger Adult Cat Light contains a number of ingredients named in general terms (dried poultry protein, rendered meat, hydrolyzed poultry protein, poultry fat, dried poultry liver). It’s hard to believe that Russian distributors know exactly where the ingredients are chicken and where turkey is, because in other languages ​​similar components are listed as “poultry”, without any specifics.

As a result, the rating of Josera Léger food for overweight cats turned out to be quite low: its score was only 9 points out of 55 possible.
