Kittens are amazing creatures that can evoke delight and tenderness in even the most callous person. If they are, of course, clean, healthy and well-mannered. But what about those who do not meet these criteria?
Our article contains 5 small stories, each of which saves a small life and hopes for a further purring future.
Spoiler alert! All these stories have a happy ending.
1. Tiger cub kitten from Malaysia
At that time, the still nameless three-haired kitten was desperately crawling on three legs along the business center building. Dirty, thin and exhausted, he did not resist when the savior, Jiam Ou, picked him up and carried him to the veterinary clinic. The kitten's back leg was twisted at the wrong angle and seemed broken, but the doctor diagnosed only severe dislocation and weight loss, and, after carrying out all the necessary procedures, sent them home, prescribing increased nutrition and love.
So one day the kitten received not only medical care, but a name, a home and a loving owner. Now Tiger Cub is 2 months old, she is completely healthy and runs confidently on all 4 legs.
2. Surgery for the little one
A ginger kitten was found on the street in Philadelphia. The story seemed unremarkable, only his head was very large. The baby could not eat on his own, and he was prepared to be euthanized. But cats also have a guardian angel. The lucky guy was adopted by Jen Mack from the Kitten Aid Society. She named him Tater Tot. The baby began to gain weight, but his head also continued to increase in size, and it became clear that a doctor’s consultation was necessary. The diagnosis was frightening - hydrocephalus. An operation was required, which, fortunately, was successful. However, after a couple of weeks the fluid accumulated again. The operation was repeated, a special magnetic shunt was installed, which will henceforth remove excess fluid automatically.
This is a unique operation, performed for the first time on such a small kitten. But Tarter endured the anesthesia incredibly easily, did not lose his appetite and continues to grow, now in proportion.
3. Mercy and her unusual paws
In Tennessee, Gina and her daughter Anna found a lonely kitten under a roasting pan, which was moving strangely and clearly in need of emergency help, because the joints on its hind legs were turned in the opposite direction. Fearing that the kitten would be immediately euthanized at the shelter, the girls decided to keep it.
An orthopedic surgeon promised to help them at the veterinary clinic. He will perform joint surgery when Mercy is 8 months old. After this, she will be able to walk like all healthy cats and live a full life. In the meantime, the baby is gaining weight and receives a special massage from her owner every day.
4. How a plastic bag can save a life
Kitten Johnny wandered the sidewalks of New York in search of at least some food. Hoping for a treat, he climbed into a small bag, but got his paw caught in it and began rustling desperately. So he was noticed by three friends - Sarah, Ed and Maureen. Upon examination by the veterinarian, it turned out that Johnny is approximately 2 months old, he is very weak and weighs only 600 grams. In addition, the baby had a severe abscess in his mouth, which prevented him from eating.
Sarah took it upon herself to feed him. Until the abscess was cured, she carefully fed the kitten with a syringe. After a few days, Johnny began to get up, and within a week he not only began to walk again, but also to run. Now he lives happily in a new family.
5. Trailer Park Rescue
Animal activist Carmen Weinberg learned about stray cats in a trailer park and went there to check. One of the park guests showed her a tiny kitten crawling in the grass. He was completely covered in wet mud, but the worst thing was that there were an incredible number of fleas on the baby that simply ate him. The kitten had been suffering for several days, but no one except Carmen dared to take him in his arms.
The baby had severe hypothermia and an eye infection. Immediately he received a hot bath with flea treatment, eye drops and the name Liam.
Now the kitten is gradually gaining weight, sleeping in a basket with a new plush friend, and Carmen is saving his fellow sufferers.

Happy story of rescue of newborn kittens
Melinda Blain loves animals very much; several cats always live in her house at the same time: some of them are in foster care, some are waiting for a new family, some are undergoing rehabilitation. Melinda will never pass by a poor animal in need of human help. Therefore, when she heard a faint cat squeak, she immediately began to look for the source of the sound. And when she found him, she was horrified. In front of her lay three kittens that were only a few days old. Two more kittens have already died. Without hesitation, the woman grabbed the surviving kittens and took them home, where there was everything for the animal to escape even in such advanced cases.

The kittens were named Atom, Cordette and Gidget. These were premature two-day-old babies with critically low body weight.
“Their mom was most likely homeless. She abandoned her babies and, most likely, they did not eat anything at all for two days,” says Melinda.

The first days were very difficult. The boy Atom had problems with his lungs; he could barely breathe, so he needed a constant supply of oxygen to the incubator. No other damage or problems were identified. Gidget, the smallest kitten weighing only 65 grams, was in the most deplorable condition. Her intestines were not working properly, so she was given prebiotics to improve her digestion. Cordette fared better than everyone else.

The first hours after the kittens were placed in incubators and treatment began were the most difficult. The newborns had a very difficult night - all the babies developed diarrhea and lost their appetite.

“It was a terrible night,” Melinda recalls. “I constantly checked their condition, changed diapers, gave them prebiotics and gave them water. I really hope their tummies settle down soon and they start to show an interest in food again.”
Gidget was still in very poor condition. In addition to diarrhea, she began to experience acute incontinence: her body no longer retained not only food, but also water. “She was a brave fighter, but I’m afraid that her battle for life is lost,” Melinda wrote on her blog this morning.
After Gidget's passing, Melinda became even more determined to save the remaining kittens. Atom and Cordette were on constant oxygen and in an incubator, plus they were given medications and tube feeding. Each feeding was carried out with the expectation of a small weight gain, each gram brought Melinda to indescribable delight.
A few days later, it seemed, life began to get better, the kittens were on the mend. But something terrible happened. Cordette's umbilical cord, which was supposed to fly off on its own in the first week of life, became severely inflamed. Apparently, the wound got infected.
“Cordette is already on one antibiotic, now we will have to give her a strong medicine. Sepsis has already spread to the hind legs. I don’t know if the baby can handle this...”, says Melinda.
But the desire to live took over. The young body gathered its last strength to make the final push. A few days later, Cordette's condition improved. Together with Atom, they slowly gained weight and slowly began to recover.
At 10 days old, Cordette has finally reached the weight of a normal 1-2 day old kitten!
On April 9, baby Atom's eyes opened and he saw the world for the first time.

There were other foster kittens living in the house, but it was immediately obvious from Atom and Cordette that they were brother and sister.

Once Atom could see his surroundings, he began to make his way through the incubator towards his sister. It was very difficult for him, but he always tried to be there. Soon Cordette opened her eyes, and by mid-April both kittens began to show their individuality and play.

Atom grows very affectionately. He loves company, purrs constantly and loves to be around. Cordette is more playful and mischievous. She hones the strength of her bite on Atom, loves to frolic and misbehave.

Now Melinda is actively looking for a new home for these adorable babies. She would hate to separate her brother and sister, who had experienced so much together in their short lives. Melinda believes that soon there will definitely be someone who wants to take her brother and sister into their family.

A story about saving kittens for primary schoolchildren
The story of a happy kitten rescue
Our cat Murka gave birth to five kittens. At first she hid them from us in the underground. Every night the babies meowed and kept us awake. After about 2 weeks, we began to dream about them - first to dad, then to mom, then to me. My brother Vitalik went to look for kittens. I went after them. We found the kittens under a concrete wall. They told dad about their find, but he did not allow them to be taken out, explaining that the cat might abandon them and stop caring for them. Soon it got colder. The kittens felt cold. The cat brought two babies to the bathhouse and buried them in the laundry prepared for washing. When we found the kittens, they couldn’t even meow, they just opened their mouths and snorted and hissed at us. They were wild. I decided to find the rest of the kittens no matter what. I took a flashlight and climbed into the underground. I looked for kittens for a long time, but could not find them. It was quiet and dark, surrounded by wooden and concrete floors that adults could never get over. All other entrances to the underground, except one, were littered with boards and bags of cement. Suddenly, a flashlight beam illuminated a small gap, and in it was a kitten. He buried his muzzle against the wall, not knowing where to go next, where his mother was. I was glad that at least one more baby had been found. He took him into the house and put him with the other kittens. The cat watched us warily. She didn't know what would happen to her kittens now. Murka went to the bathhouse, lay down and covered her children with herself. So the day passed. In the morning I woke up to my mother scolding the cat. I left the room and saw that my mother was pushing the cat into the underground, and she was running out back. The screams of kittens were heard in the underground. Yesterday we couldn’t find them, and for some reason the cat decided not to take them out of the underground. Then I hastily changed my clothes and again reached into the pile of bags of cement. But my searches were unsuccessful. I went to the parents to discuss a plan to rescue the kittens; by my calculations, there should be two more. And at this time the cat realized that we would not hurt her children and pulled out another kitten. Dad felt sorry for the kittens, and he joined my search. He saw a kitten under a pile of boards, pulled it out and handed it to me. I took the poor fellow to the bathhouse with the other kittens. The kittens stopped hissing at us. I made a box for them and put it in the kitchen. Soon the kittens grew up and began to crawl out of their house and run around the floor. I taught them to drink milk from a bowl. Now the kittens are ready to go live with their new owners.
