Seychelles cat breed: description, photo, character, behavior, owner reviews, long-haired and short-haired

Origin story

It would seem: the name speaks for itself - where can Seychelles cats come from, if not from any of the Seychelles islands? However, this is not quite true. What do the facts say?

It is unknown exactly when cats were brought to the Seychelles. One thing is for sure: they lived there for many years, adapting to extremely high temperatures and humidity. This is evidenced by the absence of a fat layer, thick hair and the presence of “burdock” ears.

In 1980, several individuals were exported to the UK by felinologists: in Foggy Albion they had long wanted to breed a new breed. Serious work has been carried out on crossing overseas guests with Persian, Siamese, Oriental and other oriental cats, but, despite the established standard, the breed still has the status of “experimental”.

Despite the fact that the breed is not officially recognized, it is very popular both in Russia and abroad. There are nurseries in the CIS countries, Germany, the USA and Australia.

Characteristics of the Seychelles breed

The breed was created literally for sociable people. These are not imposing and independent creatures with a contemptuous look: a kitten of the Seychelles breed has been relentlessly following a person since childhood. Communication, communication and communication again.

If you are bored at home, you definitely miss the warmth of the Seychelles, who are very responsive to kindness, affection and attention. In families with children, you can safely get such a pet: the child will have someone to play with, and the animal will not get bored alone.

The Seychelles cat is a true companion for adults and children. Aggression is alien to this animal. Despite the fact that aggressiveness is clearly not the strong point of this breed, cats are quite vindictive: if they are seriously offended, they will not forget it just like that.

It would be hard to call the breed quiet. If we take an example from the world of dogs, then huskies will be the most similar in character: cats love to talk, beg for treats, and show their mood.

Talkativeness is the most important character trait of Seychelles cats! Different timbre, frequent purring, muttering, trills - if you don’t communicate with such a pet for a long time and ignore it, mental breakdown is guaranteed

But cats may not like other pets. It is sometimes difficult for them to get along with their neighbors due to their natural dominance.

Raising and training a pet

It was already mentioned above that Seychelles cats are talkative. This is the key to understanding the animal and the methods of its upbringing. If you don’t want to get a truly offended and angry animal in the house, but want to raise a kind, affectionate cat, you need to communicate with the fluffy dog every day!

Animals are clean, they quickly understand what is required of them, but all the work of training and education will come to naught if you leave your pet alone all day long or give it to foster care while you are away on business.

Standards

Seychelles cats are often confused with Orientals: they are also graceful, with the same thin bones and long legs. They weigh a little: 2-4 kg.

Standard	Description
Head	Strongly elongated, triangular in shape, with a sharp chin and flat cheekbones. The bridge of the nose is narrow, straight, the ears are large, set wide, with rounded tips.
Eyes	Open, almond-shaped. The color of the iris is all shades of blue and blue.
Torso	Elongated, lean, fit, with strong muscles. The neck is long and thin, the back is flat and narrow, and the chest is also not wide.
Limbs	Thin, small paws, thin, toned fingers. The claws are long but thin.
Tail	Thin, like a whip, long, set low.
Wool	Seychelles cats can have very short or medium-length fur. Short-haired individuals have a sparse and soft undercoat, while short-haired individuals have no undercoat.

When choosing a kitten, pay attention to both appearance and behavior. The baby should not have scratching or wax plugs in the ears, discharge from the eyes or nose, cough, or bad breath. A clean butt and smooth, elastic tummy, shiny fur without bald spots are another indicator of health. A healthy toddler behaves lively and active: he plays with his brothers and sisters, runs after lumps of paper, and is not afraid of human hands and voices. Be sure to pay attention to the behavior of the kitten’s mom and dad: if the parents are aggressive or intimidated, their offspring will most likely be the same.

Conclusions about the breed

An oriental cat with the aristocratic habits of a true Englishwoman, this is what you can call a Seychelles cat. This is a combination of several factors:

beautiful appearance, reminiscent of an Oriental and a little Siamese;
peaceful character, but very demanding of communication;
easy care, no excessive nutritional requirements;
pretty good health.

The fluffy, floppy-eared miracle with a charming look will sooner or later receive its world recognition, maybe even very soon!

Colors

There are 3 types:

Septieme – white fur with small spots on the head and paws (motley tail);
Huitieme – white coat color, motley tail, large spots on the skin;
Neuvieme - the main color is white, the spots on the skin are red, gray, black.

The cute mask that Seychelles cats have should not occupy the entire head.

Seychelles kittens are born white as snow, and their distinctive color is formed only by 2.5-3 years.
